Adding the images back in to your scratch forum experience

Basically, this is a special script (called a userscript) that applies javascript code to certain browser pages. It changes all of the broken img tags into images and adds the ability to embed youtube videos and scratch projects (using the new youtube tag (just add square brackets and remember to add the /youtube tag with [] as well.). for scratch projects you need to use a tag with [scratch=flash ] (without the space at the end) and a closing tag of [/scratch ].

If you did this previously then there may have been an update to the script, requiring you to follow these instructions: http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic … 7#p1068007

Beware! Pages with many images (such as the block library) will take longer than usual to load, and may even freeze your browser up! Do not worry about this as it will unfreeze shortly, if your browsers says the script may have become unresponsive, do not stop it.

If the scratch team do not like what I have done I will happily take this down. Remember kids; use this at your own risk - if you see inappropriate images, it's not my fault!

Thanks to Cocolover, LS97, FlashGoCrazy and Roijac

Firefox works
Google chrome works
Opera probably works
Safari works if you install some stuff (follow this guide)
Internet explorer works if you install some stuff (follow this guide) - advanced users only

All you have to do is:

1. (firefox only) go to the addons page and search for greasemonkey, install it.

2. (all supported browsers) click this link to Download the script or this one

3. click allow/install on the message that pops up

4. Visit any scratch forum topic with images and be amazed!
(beware that it doesn't work on some threads - probably ones that use the img tag without putting an image in/when refering to it)

THERE WILL BE BUGS

5. ???

6. PROFIT!

Refresh the page after completing all the steps to check if you can see the image below:

http://ludix.com/moriarty/images/works.jpg

This now shows youtube videos and scratch projects!

Hey rookwood, I saw your report for a title change to "Adding the images back in to your scratch forum experience - Use at own risk", but it's way too long to fit. You'll need to shorten it. ^^;

I don't think the "use at your own risk" part is required, because when images were here, there were no warnings required.

Re: Adding the images back in to your scratch forum experience

I tested it on the block library. Images are workng, but images inside the URL tag aren't working. Which is a big fail for the block library.

Yeh I'm not sure why. But hopefully another member of the community with more proficient JavaScript skills can help!

it looks like it only does the first image:

http://ictatnhs.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/scratch.jpg
that's the second image on this thread and it doesn't work  hmm
it messes up the edit page: when i edit this post it looks like this:
it looks like it only does the first image:

Code:

<img src='http://ictatnhs.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/scratch.jpg[/img]

Yeh, that's because it's attempting to replace the bit that normally says img tag off (including square brackets, but that will confuse it even more.) I hope to include some way of it checking if it is a valid img tag in the future.

Re: Adding the images back in to your scratch forum experience

Fixed! it will now display all the images on the page, and it will only affect the topic and post pages!

To update the script:

on firefox you can go into tools>greasemonkey>manage user scripts>then click remove on the one labeled 'enable images on scratch forums'.

In chrome go to the spanner icon, then click options, go to extensions and uninstall 'enable images on scratch forums'

You'll have to work out yourself how to do it in other browsers.

Finally just click the link in the first post to redownload the script!

Re: Adding the images back in to your scratch forum experience

you may want to do something like <img src=image.jpg width=whatever> because it doesn't resize anymore  smile
