I think we could have the user-page default to the user's CSS/Theme/Skin, how about that?

what do you mean?

The user page background/font/color scheme would be the same as the theme they chose for the rest of the forum.

No (although it's true), I mean that these will be coming to the forums.

Re: Scratch Forum Development Thread

I made a sourceforge for ScratchBB.

Give me your sourceforge username and I will add you to the contributors. Sparks can be an admin.

forgot to give the link...: https://sourceforge.net/projects/scratchbb/

I mean, that if the user is using custom CSS, anyone who views their user-profile will see it with the user's CSS. Or in terms of A and B: A has a custom CSS and B looks at A's profile, and A's profile shows with A's custom CSS, even if B has a different CSS.

Zeus: I guess a Sourceforge wouldn't be bad. My username is "magnie".

Re: Scratch Forum Development Thread

The sourceforge idea is pretty cool!

Magine, I had to read your A and B out loud slowly to work out exactly what was going on  tongue  Perhaps we should have a different theme system for user's pages? Rather than the direct CSS editing we would have for the main forum, we could allow easy colour-picking and background image selecting for the user (possibly with an option to hard-code it) so that everyone can easily customise their page, no matter whether they know any coding or not.

My Username is "purplesparks".. sparks was taken ¬_¬

The only problem is it seems hard to use ( it took me a while to update and add files and folders ).

I think we can work that out. Maybe a "CSS Generator" that does what you say, but instead of having the server create the .CSS file, it just outputs the CSS of their options, which they can then add to their custom CSS?

Re: Scratch Forum Development Thread

Well I was certainly thinking that CSS builders for the forums would be easy and totally worthwhile as side projects. It's not exactly hard  big_smile

Hmm. I will make magnie a project admin.

BTW: Why not create a CSS for every user, so they could hand code theirs if they want.

If you check the ScratchBB page, it should be ok.

BTW, go to hosted apps, and click mediawiki. Can you edit?

If you need the SVN and CVS login details, I can give you those, even though I would recommend TortoiseSVN.

I'm gbear605 on sourceforge.

My job with the project is downloading the updated code, and hosting it on my website when it needs to be hosted.  I'll give Magnie, sparks, and a few others FTP info as well.

Yeah, I'm mostly inactive.  I check in once in a while though.  If you want to contact me, I have a contact form at my website, http://escratch.org

Re: Scratch Forum Development Thread

If we're going with CSS style themeing, how will people be able to use images? Surely that will require different CSS to just changing colours and then we have layout problems. Since the layout for the page will be in the CSS document, they could change the size of a div to accomodate an image and end up creating layout problems for themselves.

Unless.. maybe we could have one stylesheet for div sizes which is always used and another for theme styling... as long as we make sure sizes in the size stylesheet overwrite any size tags in the theme stylesheet it might work...

Re: Scratch Forum Development Thread

I think the user's choice should have 2 options, either basic or advanced; basic would be what would show on the user's page (for others) and could be what the user sees (if they have chosen basic) and if they choose advance, well it's up to them what they do to the forums.

I think that would be ideal! I have one of those for the block library.

However, Lighnin' really doesn't like giving the details to more than one trusted Scratcher so we'll end up with the same problem as I have with the block library. We'll have to code a back-end that lets members of the project upload and edit code to the server without needing the FTP or login details.

On my blocks.scratchr.org account, the SQL is damaged for no discernible reason so we may have to use an external database, although resources.scratchr.org have never mentioned SQL problems so it may only be my account.
