I'd really like to know if this is a permanent measure or not. I'd understand if this was a reoccuring problem, but we don't see a lot of attacks like that (that or the mods do a really excellent job of finding them before we do). It just seems like too much. The vast majority of Scratchers are seemingly being punished because of the actions of one (or a few- again I wasn't on) troll/spammer/what ever you would call them. I really hope that an alternative solution can be found (such as the proposed flagging system that is very similar to what we have for projects) because images seem to be very widley and appropriatley used for the most part.

I would agree. But you have to consider the fact that spammers posting crude/inappropriate images not only drives scratchers away but also becomes a concern with parents/guardians.
Would you risk your child seeing inappropriate images but being able to post their own images?

It doesn't happen that often though. I do see how it could be a concern though... Isn't there an option (or there was before all this) to disable images, though? If a parent was really concerned, they could always disable them that way. I'm just more or less annoyed that the actions of the few are determining the way the majority can use the forums.

Let me add something:
It's probably the troller's wish to punish an entire community for their amusement...

Yeah, before, you have said that we (the community) shouldn't act back against trollers, because thats what they want. Unfortunately, while this isn't exactly the same, you are pretty much doing what they wanted you to do.

@ The forums are now a bit more boringSecurity always has a price. I don't like having to use keys to get into my house and car all the time - but I lock them anyway because I think it makes them more secure. It's unfortunate that everyone has to suffer because of the actions of a few individuals.

It's too bad about the block library. Maybe it should be moved over to the wiki?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I've heard. On the plus side, the pages will load faster and there won't be any more image spamming.

Couldn't we just upload the post, but until a mod looks at it, the tags are disabled.
We are happy to consider suggestions as long as they meet our security concerns and don't create a large drain on our moderation or development resources. There's no feature in the current forum software for doing what you suggest.
Why not disabling [img] tags for users who spam ONLY?
Also, Is this going to be permanent?

Just freaking pointless, asinine, and ridiculous.
Describes it perfectly, unfortunately

If this is permanent, i am going to go bonkers. That is just extreme. What about us who need images? Example: Block Library, Collabs ETC. Thanks a lot.

+1.
I'd do an image for that, but the Scratch team ruined it for all of us

Acctually, it has an even MORE negative impact on scratchers that havent done anything.
I am starting a petition. Quote this to support.

its the [img] tags-_-
anyway, by the time they block a user, the damage is dealt. The ST is trying to prevent it from happening at all. A bit like Terminator, robots built, travel back in time to prevent.

Sadly, that is often the case. A single fanatic tries to blow up a plane with bombs in the soles of his shoes...and now millions of people have to take their shoes off to be x-rayed at the airport. The balance between security and freedom is always a tricky thing.
Unfortunately, we feel that we need to take this action at this time to protect our community - and we understand that it is not a popular move. However, we ask that you voice your concerns politely.

No, no. It never entered the discussion

You've never answered the biggest question in this thread.
Is it permanent?
