you're very generous when it comes to the first category- ideas. Personally, my Generation3000 game should have lost a few points because even though the way it was "presented and adapted into scratch was" good, it was still a copy of Simcity 4.

I agree with you on Chicken Chow Mein and Blimp Wars, but not so much on the maze game. Yes it did use the mouse, but other than the mouse- was it a fresh and exciting new approach on mazes that creates a whole new way and a whole diverse look on maze games? I think a little more than cursor usage would be needed to get the score as high as it is.

Everything else I've read seems reasonable- very good work!

Thanks! Reviewing is harder than you think, and it's nice to see that people are appreciating it! I made it a free service, but you can still check my stuff out if you want.  wink

P.S: Do you want to help me out? I'm getting a lot of projects, and a partner would be helpful.

Well I used to write reviews anyway so yeah I will help! We'll need a system though, because if we both accidently do the same project or none of us look at a particular one because we thought the other one would then there's going to be some problems.

Re: Get Your Project Reviewed and Advertised!

Gym Tycoon- Wings Games

Warning: I am a lot harsher than you are. Also, I could not add the quote blocks because it kept coming up with this error.

Ideas (18 points): The idea is fresh. I have never heard of a gym-building game before, although saying that, is there a need for one? An idea has to be good, and not just an idea made because no one else thought of it. The project does not persuade me it is good enough, and I have made a few tycoon games in the past and I even reviewed them myself if you want to have a look: This might show you what a tycoon should be like as they progress from worst to best. The idea of a gym game would have scored you 20/25 because it is still original, but the execution has brought it down to 18/25. The only reason it has gone down by two is because this is about ideas, if it included a couple other things the score would have had a bigger difference.

Gameplay (8 points):  It's very hard to play a game so glitchy. I tried to place the weights rack but nothing happened, and the still image-of an advisor (which to me doesn't suit the game at all, it makes it look tacky in some cases) was standing there waiting for me to place some weights which I could not do! You can click on some buttons though, and you can place items, but if this was a scrolling game then I would not have minded objects that place themselves, but because this is a still-game, then really it would have been nicer to place objects where you wanted.

Ease of Use (5 points): I love the fact that you can use the mouse, I do sometimes get fed up of keyboards. However, even though it is easy to find items on the screen, because of the glitches confusing the player when the game does something it shouldn't, the score is brought down quite a bit. This would easily score a 15 with improved graphics on the interface (makes buttons stand out more and easier to see) and also removing glitches.

Understandability (14 points): It's hard to understand a game that ignores what you tell it to do, but because the goal is simple- to build a gym, and because there aren't hundreds of things going on at the same time, your understandability score is high indeed, leaving you with only one point lost due to glitches.

Feel (2points): The game feels tacky, rushed and dumb. The glitches make it feel like it was done by an amateur, and I'm sure you're no amateur, and the graphics of bright green grass and a few colourful squares is simply like "kindergarten" level ("reception" as they call it across the Atlantic). No sound, no good looks, no working items, no worth playing.

Graphics (1point): The advisor looks like a weird statue, the buttons and some of the backgrounds are dull grey, the gym itself looks messy, it is always daylight, which makes the game feel slow because it feels like time is not passing. I do praise you for drawing something, and not just making a text game. One Point!

Sound (2points): You did not put in any stupid sounds, and background music was not needed. 2 points! However, there were no other sounds at all. All you had to do was:

[blocks]
<when green flag clicked>
<forever>
<if> <mouse down?>
<play sound[clicky noise]>
<end>
<end>
[/blocks]

This means that every time the player clicks something, the noise plays, rather than adding the sound effect to every single button. Oh, and possible the odd extra sound here and there.

This review is good (I know what you mean, most of my projects aren't finished), but you should try to word it a little less harshly. I just don't want anyone's feelings to get hurt. Like don't use dumb. Try something like "the feel really needs to be redesigned. It doesn't feel like you really cared about the game when you made it because..." It gets the same message across. As for the system, I'll make a separate topic for that, just so we don't clog this topic up.

Re: Get Your Project Reviewed and Advertised!

Sorry this took so long...
Review For Trim a Tree:

Ideas (22 pts): I've seen a lot of ideas where you decorate things. The idea wasn't original, but since there were a few original decorations (the snowman, stocking), it was okay.

Gameplay (15 pts): The game played pretty well, but I ran into two major problems that really interfered with playing the game. First, I wasn't able to place the brown ornament. It just wouldn't move. It wasn't THAT annoying, but it still took away from the game. Also, you'd run out of ornaments. That part I really didn't like. If I'm making my dream Christmas tree, I want to have as many red ornaments as possible (I like red).

Ease of use(15 pts): The game's controls made sense and didn't need any explanation. The controls for placing things on the tree was easy.

Understandability (15 pts): The game had a clear goal: Decorate the tree!

Feel (10 pts): The game kept it's bright, cheery feel throughout.

Graphics (5 pts.): The graphics all look like they belong together, and are of nice quality.

Sound (4 pts): The music was nice, but I thin I heard it in CheddarGirl's project before...

OVERALL: 86/100
Rewards: A love-it. (I loved-it before this review, so I'll favorite it instead).
Work On: The ornaments. Make it so that you can drag the brown ornament and that you have a limitless number of ornaments.

P.S: You can resubmit your project, but I will only re-rate it, I won't re-review it.

Re: Get Your Project Reviewed and Advertised!

thought I'd wait until you hadn't had a few requests for a while before I asked you of this (it's quite big). Remember that link I sent you with my own personal reviews on my own games (I understand if you didn't bother reading it, it is long) well my Inter-Inc Series was quite a hit a while back (reaching 725 views in total) and I was planning on remaking the series.

You see, the graphics and the "tech-level" were poor on all of them, as they were made when I was still pretty fresh to scratch. However, not only do I want to remake them to stretch my new talents, but also to see if I can once again make successful tycoon games. Here's the link to my own personal reviews, but if you haven't read the three sections (you don't have to read the other two) already then maybe you could wait till after you've written your reviews and then we can compare them.

The whole point is, there's no point me remaking the series if I don't fully understand the problems with the original. So would you kindly help me out please?

Re: Get Your Project Reviewed and Advertised!

Here goes nothing:

Review For Inter-Carny:

Ideas (25 pts): The idea of making your own amusement park was a great one. I have seen many store tycoon games on scratch, but not many like this.

Gameplay (10 pts): The game was very hard to play. First off, I couldn't tell what things were. I would go to buy something, and I would see a bunch of icons. I had no clue what they were, which took away from the game. Secondly, I could only drag things sometimes. I would click on the icon, and it would just go right to where I clicked the button, or it would follow my mouse laggedly (I think that's a word). Moving the elements of you buisness around is one of those things that really adds to a tycoon game, and this game just didn't pull it off well. Also, I think the part where you moved using your mouse was a bit hard. Try using a [if mouesx>230] block.

Ease of use(5 pts): It was hard to figure out what the buttons were.

Understandability (15 pts): The game's goal made sense.

Feel (10 pts): The game kept it's happy feel throughout the entire thing.

Graphics (2 pts.): The rides didn't really look like rides. However, some things looked the way they were supposed to, and the graphics all went well together.

Sound (3 pts): The music was good and made sense, but it got repetitive.

OVERALL: 70/100
Rewards: None
Work On: The interface

P.S: I'll do another one tomorrow.

Re: Get Your Project Reviewed and Advertised!

Review For Entertainment Inc.:
Edit: I feel like I'm missing something. Everyone says your project is amazing, but I gave it a 44. I used the Java player. Should I have downloaded it?

Ideas (25 pts): I really like the idea of making your own movie theatre. It's original, and I thought it was was one of those games where the topic draws you in.

Gameplay (5 pts): I really didn't like the gameplay. First off, nothing really happens. You just sort of put stuff down and that's it. You don't see people go in and out of your theatre, you don't see people buying things, and you don't see the movies. It just feels like it's lacking its ability to engage the player. Secondly, I feel that there shouldn't be anything about needing Panther. I don't have it, and I don't like having my gameplay restricted because of it. Also, it's hard to tell what things are. Everything just goes to the floor. It just feels weird.

Ease of use(4 pts): It was hard to understand what things were and how they were supposed to work.

Understandability (5 pts): I didn't really get how you were supposed to get money... The graphs weren't really helpful.

Feel (3 pts): The game didn't really feel the way the game should. The clicking sound and dropdown menu felt too OS-y and not gamey enough. It just felt industrial.

Graphics (3 pts.): The graphics overall were good, but it was hard to tell what was what.

Sound (2 pts): There wasn't any sound, except for the clicking sound, which got repetitive.

OVERALL: 44/100
Rewards: None
Work On: The gameplay. The game really doesn't feel engaging enough.

P.S: Sorry these are so harsh, but if you want to make your games the best they can be, I need to point out every flaw.

I think we both talked about the same stuff in both reviews, except on my Theme Park one I forgot to mention that the graphs actually work. That was the only thing where Inter-Carny Inc improved on Entertainment Inc, and the fact you get 65 objects.

Also, which is better? The Panther products being removed all-together and not even mentioned for those who did enjoy the game and want more- or giving scratchers the option to find it. I seriously could not get those to work on scratch, but I did upload the panther version to ModShare but someone hacked into the site, spammed it, then deleted a few projects including my cinema game, which I didn't have a spare copy to (I deleted it as soon as I uploaded it, which isn't like me. Just says what I really felt about it, considering I kept my SCDG game from early August this year and my Rayman game from October).

Finally, I hope you get what I felt when I played International Inc after so many failed attempts on other games. Better graphics, better understandability, but a lousy and annoying timetable-screen, which takes forever to fill. Hope you enjoy it when you review it!

Final, final, final thing. Is the title good? Because I like the fact that they all have similar names, and are sorta part of the Inter-Inc series, but worried that other people might find them horrible.

Could you grade this one? It's an AMV and I worked really hard on it.

Which project do you want reviewed the most? I really don't have time to review three projects from the same user. Sorry!  sad

How about.... Ball Bouncer V.2 (first link) Sorry for the trouble. Do you mind if I request another review a long time later?

WingsGames hired me as side-kick, so I'll be doing this one. However, we're not looking for any more side-kicks so please don't apply to be one.

Ball Bouncer v.2 (first link)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ideas: 20/25
The idea of a bouncing ball is half unique and half copied. The idea of scrolling over
platforms and having to jump and collect little bonuses has been done time and time
again, but even though that part is not unique  it is a good idea. The second part,
controlling a ball is brilliant. Shame it wasn't a bouncing ball, but that'll affect scores
later. For now this does deserve 20 points, whilst losing 5 because it is a copy. It's
certainly better than a uniquely bad game, so don't be disheartened by the -5 points.

Game-play: 22/25
This is where the ball problem comes in. But let's see the "glass-half-full" side. Brilliantly
designed levels, both challenging and fun. The power-ups here and there are brilliant
also. However, it is indeed not a bouncing ball. When the ball is on the blue platform
it floats to the top, making it look like a beach ball. Maybe thinner platforms would sort
that out. It would be cool if when the ball hits the ground it bounces back up!
Obviously not as high as on games like Kitten Cannon or TM's Shoot-It, but basically it
would speed up the pace of the game and make it more fun. For what you HAVE done,
you get 22 points! -3 because the ball seems to stick to the ground like glue instead of
rolling naturally, which slows it down and makes it harder to control.

Ease of Use: 13/15
The controls are simple, but the ball can sometimes not jump far enough, and you really
have to give it all you've got just to get it across. What might be good is you don't use
arrows at all, you use the SPACE bar to make it jump and fall down early. The ball scrolls
automatically to the right, and every so often it gets faster. Sorry, but when it comes to
reviews I can't help but score the game based on what was not in it rather than what was.
I will give it a 13, but if I were to base it on how much it was lacking it would have been an
   8.

Understandability: 15/15
Very easy to understand. Push a non-bouncing ball on platforms that make you float.
   Hard
to understand why it's like that, but easy to understand that it is like that. 15 for making
   the game clear.

Feel: 7/10
If I'm being honest, I'd but graphics out of /10 and feel out of /5, because it's the
   graphics
and sound that make the feel, but I'll leave the scoring as how WingsGames would do it.
Out of 10, I'd give it a 7. It looks simple, and also "cool". Cool games are usually ones
   which
are colourful or black and white; detailed or extremely simple, and down right lazy.
Sorry I may sound like I'm in a mood with the entire scratch society, but if you saw my
Panders Quest game, and then heard that projects like this which has lots of google
images rather than much hand-drawn, plus some terrible animation when the people are
talking, (which are also just photos) you must know how I feel when people say mine
need tweaking up. This game called "Fade", has a little black + white bouncing kid. No
second animation, just bouncing all the time. My Panda from Chicken Chow Mein I know
was "choppy", but it had more images than that little brat. Anyway, enough of my life
   story, I give you a 7.

Graphics: 4/5
All the rage on scratch, colourful lines and a non-bouncing ball.I'm not being sarcastic
because that is seriously what scratch is all about. I know I'm coming across in a bad mood
but I am so fed up of the time I put in my work compared to that person who made that
"Christmas Carol" thing that lasted 7 seconds and is loved by everyone. I remember when
scratch first started (I wasn't there but I searched it up) and I saw this beautiful archery
game but the creator was worrying it wasn't good enough. That was when scratch was
about gaming. Now some of the worst projects have scratchers shouting "Look at my
absolutely amazing and spectacular game!!!". I give it a 4 because that's what everyone
   wants isn't it?

Sound: 2/5
The music reminds me of Ocarina of Time, which sounds good (give you a 2 for that) but
it doesn't suit the game. So of course you lose 2 points. The final point is lost because
of lack of sound effects. If the score was out of say /8 it would have been easier to
mark but sadly feel is out of 10 so it's harder to squeeze in.

Sorry to come across like that but I am so fed up of scratch. It's nothing to do with not being famous, because honestly I've got over 4500 views on my advert thread so someone would have spotted my name. It's the people who do get famous. Can't believe I put an emotional debate of scratch into a review. Anyways, cya.

Your score: 83/100.

I am Wings-Games sidekick so I'm writing this one. Please do not apply to be one, we are not looking for more reviewers.

Marble Maze 0.4:

Idea: 20/25
I was goanna give you 25 because it seemed to me like a very unique game, until I saw
the project notes and realised what it was based on. The way you put it in scratch is
very good, but you automatically lose 5 points for originality. Still, 20 points is a lot.

Gameplay: 22/25
Fun, addictive and simple. Maybe speeding it up would make it drain a little less time
off your day, because the game makes you wanna go to the next level and find out
what happens next, but sadly you're going nowhere until you've pushed an arrow
key for 10 minutes. That will also effect the score "Ease of use". I've got to admit
though, it is boring that the wood piece in the middle doesn't change much in shape.
I got to level 4 and it was still in that sort of shape, but with one or two adjustments.

Understandability: 15/15
   Very easy to understand.

Ease of Use: 12/15
Read the game-play section. Continuation: simple arrow use, but moving the ball is
   difficult.

Feel: 8/10
Feels like a maze, looks like a maze. Why not 10/10? If I'm being honest, this section is
too easy- all you have to do is get your game to feel like what it should and you get 10!
PS. I've reduced it to 8. Read the "sounds" section.

Graphics: 5/5
They're in 3D, marble looks like a marble, good textures used.

Sound: 3/5
Good sound effects and tunes, except the music doesn't suit the game. If you're going
for a wild and crazy theme then change the rest of the game to suit the music. I did
give you a 10 before for "feel" but I'm reducing it to 8 because I've realised now that
   sound affects feel too.

Overall: 85/100
