Hard Drives: How Small is Too Small?

As you know, I've been looking for a laptop, blah blah blah.
I feel as though I have narrowed it down to two laptops, both made by ASUS.

The ASUS Zenbook (UX21 or UX31) and the ASUS U36SD.

Reviews have led me to favor the Zenbook, but there is one thing that I can't ignore: except for the most expensive models of the UX31, it comes with a 128 GB solid state drive.

So that brings me to the question: How small is too small?

The upgrade to the Zenbook is a few hundred dollars, because it is also involved with processor upgrades and such. The standard for the U36SD is a 500 640 gigabyte regular hard drive.

So... How easy to work with is 128 GB? I have an old laptop with XP that filled up a 20GB hard drive really quickly... Theoretically windows 7 would eat it up even faster.
Which is best? 128, 256 (at the added price), or 640?

Note that even as I write this I begin to lean towards the cheaper U36 again, as it has more RAM and a GeForce GPU, but still, I want to know other scratcher's opinions.

Like I've said before, get an external one. If your computer breaks it'll all be safe to use anywhere else too.

You do make a good point, especially with the USB 3.0 port on each computer there.
The UX21 might be the computer for me, assuming I find a way to make the money  tongue

After a quick google search, I found some external hard drives that have a fairly large capacity for only 50-100 dollars. I could spend 150 on a full terrabyte, but honestly, I don't need THAT much.

Also, the U36 apparently has some heat issues, yuou could cook on hat thing, one reviewer got it up to 177 F (80 C) after playing MW2 for only 15 minutes!

Re: Hard Drives: How Small is Too Small?

I have a 250 gb hardrive but then again, I also have a 2,000 terabite hardrive I never use  tongue

But I use my computers for school mostly because I have a lot of tech-based classes.

If you are going to be using it for fun, then I would say go with the 150 gb.

I highly doubt that you have 2,000 Terabytes. That is 2 MILLION gigabytes, so either you are Bill Gates' child or your parents think that more is always better.

Go tO an apple store and try out a mac, i think you'll find that they are much better.

Obvious troll is obvious.

As I have said, I WILL NOT BUY A MAC!!! End of story! I love their hardware, but I will not pay them to create an app!

Yeah, with a good antivirus and some common sense, there should be no troubles... It's common sense not to go and download every little thing you see on the web.

You know why people assume Mac's don't get viruses? Their app market is so small compared to Windows, it's pathetic.

Yup. Even my grandma, who knows almost nothing about technology, can figure that out.

Anything smaller than 2 TB is too small.
