How precisely do the resistors on a picoboard work? They don't seem to be entirely independant...
I want to make a drum http://www.scratch.mit.edu/ext/youtube/?v=IEDE53K8Hlk or "keyboard" like http://www.scratch.mit.edu/ext/youtube/?v=VPSst9-T2uw with four pads and one or two sticks. I thought I could hook up a stick to an A and B wire, but then A is always "connected".

It may be a trap of PicoBoard. It seems that both of alligator clips from same cable are no differences. In fact, one is connected to the common ground (GND) and another one is connected to the individual analog port and the power source (Vcc) via resistor. So you must check which is connected to the GND.
The following topic may help you. http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=31036
