I tried to sign up for Google +1 and this came up.

[sarcastic]Yeah, right.[/sarcastic]
Poll
EDIT: Oops... I accidentally voted Yes. Let's hope you don't make that mistake.

If it was a random company, I would agree with you. This is Google. Why would Google give away your phone number? There are millions of Googlers. They couldn't give away millions of phone numbers! They do this to keep your account safe. Sorry, but -1.

Should be trustworthy, sure... But eh, I must be either paranoid or just lazy, because I still avoid giving Google my number. ._.

Really? You have to restart Internet for it to work...
If that doesn't work, try restarting your computer

Why do they need your phone number. A bit suspicious don't you think. It's the only site that I know off that wants your number just for an email account.

lol they do that to verify that you own the account and to make it easier to recover if it gets hacked

I have had some serious problems like that.
One time, when I signed up for a bunch of stuff, with my old email, cocoguy@live.com, there was spam like you've never seen before. There was at least 203 new messages in both junk and my inbox.
And, guess what?
1 quarter of the spam was from Google.
