Gamer's Delight - Scratch's first non-Scratch-related newspaper

Have you noticed that pretty much every (if not all) newspapers on Scratch are Scratch-related? That's not a bad thing. It's not a bad thing at all! But I was thinking that we could make Scratch's first non-Scratch-related newspaper, in this case, video game-related. In a nutshell - a video-game-related newspaper released every 2 weeks!

PLEASE READ - We are going to start writing the newspaper in 2 days (Wednesday, November 16, 2011), but you can still recruit after that, for future issues!

If you'd like to join, feel free to!
Also, if you any questions regarding anything about the newspaper, feel free to ask.
ALSO - Any job that hasn't yet been taken will be filled in by me, All4one.
AND... - You can apply for as much jobs as you want, as long as you think you can do that many jobs.
PLEASE NOTE THAT - We'll probably only talk about games under the M rating (on ESRB rating terms), so as to stay family-friendly for all Scratchers.  smile

If you decide to work for this newspaper, be sure to read all the posts in this topic, to stay up to date on what's going on.  big_smile

Co-President #1 - All4one (The Co-President is basically one of two people in charge of the whole newspaper, who oversee the production of things, and makes sure everybody's doing their job right and everybody's got their article ready for the next issue. A co-president will also substitute for anybody who can't do their job for a certain amount of time.)

Co-President #2 - scratchlive (See above description.)

Editor - All4one (Title is self-explanatory.  tongue )

Substitute Editor - JackERY (If the main editor can't write the newspaper in time for when the new issue should be released, then the substitute editor will fill in for that person.)

Substitute Substitute Editor - kayybee (If both the editor and the substitute editor can't edit a certain issue, than it's up to the Substitute Substitute Editor to edit the paper. XD)

Main Article Writer #1 - All4one (The main article writer is the writer who...well...writes the main articles.  tongue  The main articles are the stories that will be written in the newspaper (eg. "Super Mario 3D Land Kicks off the Holiday Season"), which includes the front page story, as well. There will be more than one. Three is the total amount.)

Main Article Writer #2 - FallenIce (See above description.)

Main Article Writer #3 - ja8eri (See above description.)

Main Article Writer #4 - Gamefan888 (See above description.)

Main Article Writer #5 - The1UP (See above description.)

Main Article Writer #6 - locker99 (See above description.)

Reviewer #1 - maxdoss (This is pretty much the person who will write the reviews for video games, preferrably recent ones or ones that go with the stories in the issue. If you can't think of a video game to review, then I'll be more than happy to suggest one for you. You can review more than one game per issue, three is the maximum amount. Also, when reviewing, be sure to rate the game on a scale of 1-10. These people will reviewer recently-released or at least ones of current game systems, so as not to collide with the new "Retro Reviewer" section.)

Reviewer #2 - PerspectiveDesigns (See above description.)

Glitch Master - ja8eri (I'm not really sure about this one, but there could be an article talking about hilarious or just interesting glitches in video games. The person who will write that article will be called "The Glitch Master".)

"What Other People Are Saying" - gerbils800 (The writer for this article will basically talk about what other people think about recently-released video games. By "other people", I mean anybody outside the newspaper staff. For example, other Scratchers, the gaming press, or even just players who buy the game!)

Cheats and Secrets - jslomba (I think the title is self-explanatory)

Comic Template Writer #1 - ja8eri (This is the person who will make templates for the comics for issues, and then I'll be drawing it myself and coloring it in on the computer for the issue.)

Comic Template Writer #2 - (n/a) (See above description)

Comic Artist - All4one (This is the person that will draw and color in other people's templates on their computer. This person might also make their own comics if they wish.

Cover Page Artist - PerspectiveDesigns (This person will draw templates for the cover page, and then the editor will make a cover page for an issue fromt hat template.)

Music Supplyer #1 - ToxicQuillz (This is the person who will supply music to be put in the "jukebox" inside the project. It must be video game music!)

Music Supplyer #2 - ja8eri (See above description.)

Minecraft Corner - mario9705 (The person who writes the article about ALL things Minecraft.)

iPhone and iPad Game Section - JJROCKER (The person who writes about recent games for the iPhone and iPad and such. We can try to come up with a better name for the section.  tongue )

Retro Reviewer - LordFawful (The person who reviews older games, such as ones for the NES, Sega Genesis, SNES, etc.)

ISSUES RELEASED -

Issue #1 (Featured - 12/11/11)
Issue #2
Issue #3

Great!

@maxdoss - That can be your decision. But I would prefer you review a Zelda game, because we'll be talking about The Legend of Zelda's 25th anniversary in the first edition. Choose any Zelda game you want; you can do more than one.  smile

Sorry for replying to you so late. This was the first chance I had to reply.
Anyway, I would prefer you just do a recently-released game. You don't have to own the game to do it. Some suggestions - Super Mario 3D Land, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Sonic Generations.

Also, I would reccomend asking your friends on Scratch or in real life. You can also ask Scratchers in a forum topic in the Miscellaneous forums. You can look up what reviews say on various websites.
After all this, you make your article, summarizing all the facts you got.
Hope that helped!  big_smile

Actually, I'm Main Article Writer #1, but of course, you can be Main Article Writer #2! You can start with the 2nd issue (since I've already got all the ideas for the 1st issue ready, sorry).

Re: Gamer's Delight - Scratch's first non-Scratch-related newspaper

Kirby’s Return to Dreamland
By Gerbils800

Its been a while since there has been a classic Kirby game. Kirby has appeared in many different ways, such as Kirby’s Epic Yarn, Kirby Mass Attack, etc.  It is an addicting platformer with the traditional inhaling, powers gained by swallowing enemies, and has a multiplayer mode.  “But the complete lack of difficulty makes what should be an enthralling game sometimes boring,” says Joystiq.com. This seems to be agreed by almost everyone. IGN said:

“…The vast, vast majority of this game plays ludicrously easy,” says IGN.com, “Of the six worlds, five of them posed almost no challenge whatsoever.”

Many reviews complain about the game being uncreative, but some of us (like me) think it is very nice to have it back to basics. “The charm is still there, but the creativity seems to have gone amiss,” says GamePro.com.

But of course, there are some very good things about this game to.

“Kirby fans have been waiting a long time for a return to the classic Kirby experience,” says Nintendolife.com, “but after playing Kirby's Return to Dreamland, it's perfectly clear that the wait was well worth it. Not only are the colourful visuals absolutely stunning, but the classic gameplay, although a tad on the easy side, has never played better or featured more variety.”

So if you decide to get this game, you can expect:

Good:
•    Fun, silly new super abilities
•    Loads of charm
•    Excellent multiplayer co-op
•       Very nice graphics.
Bad:
•    Light on difficulty.

hope this is ok.  smile

The Game Guru(my section)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
by maxdoss

If you haven't played, or at least heard of this game, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU! THis game is often concidered the best game ever, and it completely deserves this title. With graphics that were great at the time, an excellent story, fitting gameplay (except for you-know-what), and a variety of songs to play on the ocarina, this game has what it takes to be one of the best games ever.

Gameplay:
8/10
Story:
10/10
Music:
10/10
Graphics:
7/10

My total review: I give it a 10/10.

The Stats: 35/40= 8/10

*applauds* This is excellent! It's flawless!
I'm definitely using this for the issue. Just a suggestion if you can, though - maybe you can ask other Scratchers what they think of the game to, and include their quotes in here. But that doesn't make this bad! This is 100% excellent!  big_smile
Now to read maxdoss's section.  smile
