What are .gifs? I want to put videos in my profile picture, but I don't know how, and all the replies I get are: It should be a .gif. WHAT ARE GIFS?????!!!!!

"graphics interchange format" (.gif) is a type of image, like .jpg or .png. However, a picture that is a "gif" can store multiple images in one "picture", if that makes sense. Like the rubik's cube in my signature is a gif, and it constantly flips through multiple images, but the "source" is one address.

Kinda like what MoreGamesNow said. Gifs are basicly an image that is an animation type.
Gifs aren't necessarily images though. What makes gifs great is that they can be animations, but they don't have to.
Exactly! What you want to do is search for "Animated GIFs" and see what you can find. There are also ways to make an animated GIF from your own drawings, if that's of interest to you.
