I have a weakness for picking a certain character that I really like and make them my favorite. I love them and they're one of the reasons I watch/read something.
Then the writer of it comes along and says, "Hey, wouldn't it be heartbreaking if _____ died!"
And then it leaves you mad for the rest of the series sometimes, because you can't stand to look at the other characters without getting bitter about your favorite's death? Or you cry for half an hour over someone fictional?
I don't always hate it when characters die. When done correctly, it can make you like the said book(s) or movie(s) better, but if done incorrectly, it can be something that makes me mad all day.
THINGS TO DISCUSS:
1. What are some characters that you loved that were killed off? (Don't get mad at me if you get spoilers from here. Please, please people, mark where your spoilers are going to be. Don't worry about Harry Potter, though, because I bet everyone's heard every spoiler that there is by now.) They can be ones done well or done incorrectly.
2. Which deaths did you like and which did you hate?
3. Do you like it or hate it when characters die?

My favorite characters who have died:
Tam Lin from The House of the Scorpion
Felldoh from Martin the Warrior
I also read Deltora Quest, and Barda almost died. I was ready to cry if he did. But he didn't.
I hate when my favorite character dies! Then, if you reread the book, it's hard to see the character in the same way again.

I love it when my favourite characters die. Then I don't have to think about what they'll do once the book is over; there is actually some kind of closure. Like at the end of The Hunger Games, I wished that all the characters died tragically.

Hmm. It makes sense. I wanted everyone but Finnick to die a heroic death, because Katniss was such a weak jerk at the end of Mockingjay. I can't name a character in that series that I loved that didn't die.

Actually I don't think my opinion is justified; I'm just a selfish jerk.

I read that book, it was creepy
Kind of. I thought the scene where Matt jumps out the window is kinda weird.
Matt: Want to play with me? *smashes window and leaps out, screams when he cuts his foot on glass*
I especially hated the ending. In a nutshell, "Hi Matt. Everyone's dead. Oh yeah, and this country is yours now."
