A New Front Page!
Ok, a new front page. First, the logo should be about 5 times smaller. Downsize the ScratchEd and Scratcher interviews. Six projects per row, smaller icons. You can rollover a projects icon to see project notes, # of love its, etc. And (best part) all the green flag scripts will play INSIDE THE ICONS. It's called project preview.
Now, about the sections. From top: one row of what we're loving, two of most viewed, one of curator, 3-4 rows of random and 2 rows of design studio is at the bottom.
Please support this.

The problem about making project previews is that the page would be really slow, to load all those flash applications.
Also, ScratchEd and Scratcher Interviews are not junk. You're not helping getting them removed by saying they're junk. If the scratch team thought it was junk, they wouldn't have put it there.
I believe the rows are fine where they are.
You forgot the featured and the top remixed.
We don't need 3-4 rows of random. What if an unnoticed inappropriate project showed up?
Before there was a surprise row I think. 3-4 times more is going to make it even worse.

Sorry, I don't really agree.
First, 5x smaller? That's like...
No, really, I get what you mean. But our current logo is only 60 pixels tall anyway, I don't think they could make it much smaller.
The ScratchEd and Scratcher Interviews aren't junk - just because you don't find them useful doesn't mean everyone does, or else they would've gotten rid of those long ago.
The six projects per row idea isn't bad, although let's face it, the thumbnails are already quite cramped. Also, I don't know about the whole preview project thing. It would be cool, but loading all those applets at once? That would be a horrible strain on your bandwidth...
And the proposed sections... aren't you missing Featured?

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Rollovers aren't slow! Just look at Google Images. It has rollover boxes and still works fine. The Scratch Team would preview all the random projects (they could just change daily/twice a day) and check for "inappropriate" ones... And featured is exactly what we shouldn't have on the front page. Maybe top remixed. Scratcher Interviews and ScratchEd might not be junk, but they certainly don't deserve that much screen space. My larger point is that the front page should be redesigned to save space and have room
for more projects.
Maybe 2 of random.

Well, we should really just reduce the white space around the logo. And will you guys stop worrying about the bandwidth and blah blah blah? GOOGLE AND A THOUSAND OTHER SITES DO IT. TRUST ME, IT WILL WORK.
The projects should be side by side (just a thin border in between).
