blocky pixel art like the original mario, is 8-bit. this: Army of Trolls is not 8-bit, but is pixel art.

Actually, that's not correct. 8-bit graphics means that each pixel is represented by one byte (8 bits). In 8-bit graphics, the maximum amount of colors is 256.

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>

Re: 8 bit graphics

I think that it's just huge-pixel-based art.  I think the name comes from its likeness to the bad quality of the old 8-bit stuff (like Atari, I think, and maybe the really early computers).

It doesn't mean it had bad quality.
Back then, it was amazing.

Anyways, most peoples computers are 32-bit.

64-bit is more common than 32-bit nowdays.  tongue

@topic 8-bit graphics are pictures with 256 colors and (usually) low resolution.

Oh, I see, the way to get the colors is 2⁸, not 8x8. Fail on my part.  tongue

Re: 8 bit graphics

8 bit art is usually considered blocky because of the limited colors and lack of transparency for anti-aliasing and such. The resolution could be the same as now, but the images would still be blocky.
