Measuring the Effectiveness/Impact of Scratch

What type of pre- and post-tests have been given to see what users (7th-12th graders) think about computer science, gaming, math, programming, etc. before and after their introduction to Scratch? What about the qualitative betterment in using Scratch? Thanks for your help with those questions. I would like to introduce Scratch to 7th-12 graders and would like to see what others have done in measuring Scratch's success beyond what is produced and uploaded on the Internet?

Re: Measuring the Effectiveness/Impact of Scratch

There is some data about the effectiveness of Scratch as an introduction to programming for non-CS majors in David Malan's SIGCSE paper "Scratch for budding computer scientists." See:

Re: Measuring the Effectiveness/Impact of Scratch

There is a book called "Minds in Play" by Yasmin Kafai (1994) where she does some analysis that you might find interesting. In her case she used the Logo programming language.
