Why do we have this status bar again?

Why do we even need "Most Remixed?" I mean look at it right now, all 3 of them are coloring contests with cats. All 3 of them. We really have no use for this bar. Can we just get rid of it? Please?

That bar shows that the Scratch Team supports remixing.

Lurking more than posting, but still here.

Yes, this.

But it's true that the projects are unworthy of being on the front page.

I just wish the scratch team will choose several out of the top 10 or 20 or so, ones like "level 1" (an old front paged project i think by maki-tak) where the remix was actually creative (add a level) and wasn't a coloring contest.

Re: Why do we have this status bar again?

Scratch focuses heavily on remixing, so the bar is a good idea on paper, but in reality the projects that make it there are just... well, not frontpage worthy at all.

The worst part is, to many people it's just an easy way of getting frontpaged without putting in any effort, which is why we have so much remix spam  sad

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: Why do we have this status bar again?

they should add a word filter so nothing with the words 'add yourself' or 'colouring contest' gets into top remixed unless it has over 100 lovits.gb

My latest project is called http://tinyurl.com/d2m8hne! It has http://tinyurl.com/d395ygk views, http://tinyurl.com/cnasmt7 love-its, and http://tinyurl.com/bwjy8xs comments.

Sigh. This has been brought up so many times.
I think they should move it down.

Re: Why do we have this status bar again?

I think they said somewhere that they like it because it helps get new users noticed and supports a community of avid remixers  hmm

I wish it had interesting stuff like engines though D:

Wow, the things people see with a simple picture  roll

Sure you can! Beware it's not at all finished and I also suggest hosting the pictures on there yourself, since I might be moving mine off dropbox. Assuming you have Stylish:

Code:

div.blockpost h2 {
 background-image: url(http://mod-share.webuda.com/styles/blueTiles.jpg) !important;
}
div.blockform h2 {
 background-image: url(http://mod-share.webuda.com/styles/blueTiles.jpg) !important;

div.blocktable h2 {
 background-image: url(http://mod-share.webuda.com/styles/blueTiles.jpg) !important;
}
.pun th {
 background-color: #AAF !important;
}
#brdmenu {
 background-image: url(http://mod-share.webuda.com/styles/blueTiles.jpg) !important;
}
a {
  -webkit-transition: color ease-out 2s;
}
a:hover {
  -webkit-transition: color ease-in 0.4s;

This, especially the last part,

and this, except the part about love-its because popular enough users will just go "LOV IT SO IT GETS FORNT PAGE!!", and since they have such an influence over the kiddos that remix their projects, they probably will love-it. It could even get Top Loved, clogging the front page even worse.

And that makes me think, how would the remixers react to this? If we block them they would clog the front page in other ways if they're organized enough.  hmm

The last bit is a good point. But I think the real concept behind opposing this decision should be that it wouldn't be fair to sweep away a row of projects from one day to the next. That said I do agree with what has been proposed in the first post.

But still remember you can move the remixed row down (or even hide it!) and the top-loved or viewed up, with Stylish. That's what I did with mine.
