And how. The reason I have all these upgrades is because they are my birthday presents. We got a better router a while ago, and so I could use the faster wireless it gave me I got a new Wi-Fi receiver. Then just a few minutes ago, I installed an additional 2 GB of RAM, so now I have 4 GB all around, and a way, waaay better video card then the one I had. I just ran Portal 2 at it's highest settings with no perceivable framerate drop, and no graphical errors. I'm still using Windows XP (which is 10 years old now
), so the next thing I need to do is backup all my files and install Windows 7, then transplant all my files.
So how's your PC doing right now?

XP is ten years old now? Daaaaaaaang.
My computer's quite nice and I'm running XP and Ubuntu 10.10 on Wubi. I use Chrome and foobar2000 and stuff and I love my computer and I hate Win7.

Nice! I had an upgrade a little while ago too. What graphics card did you put in?
It's a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT. It isn't exactly the highest end thing, but it's pretty high up there. I didn't spring for something crazier because I wanted to make sure it was still compatible with the machine I had. It's still AMAZING though. I love this card to death already and it's only been in for half an hour now.

O_O That's pretty old, at least in tech years.
Why not spring for a newer low-end card that supports more recent technology?
@veggieman: I don't understand the hate towards Windows 7. I love it. ^_^

Actually, it's not that old. I'm pretty sure this card was made in 2011.

I don't like the way it's set up and how it looks. I think it looks really ugly and snobbish.

Meh, I don't like the new UI much either. But I'm fairly certain you can make it more like XP if you rummage around in the settings.

It also has messed up graphics that aren't clean looking; it's not pixel perfect and adds colour around letters. Take a screenshot to see what I mean.
Also I don't like the upgrade to MS Paint.

MS Paint is upgraded? I'll have to get on the family PC downstairs that runs 7 in the morning to check that out.

Well, it's a discontinued series. The 9500 GT specifically was released in summer 2008. 3 years isn't that old, but there are newer cards that support newer standards like DirectX 11, not to mention they're probably more efficient. Hey, that's just me though.
And in response to the Windows 7 UI discussion, I don't quite get that. I mean don't get me wrong - I love XP; it's a solid OS. It's just dated and I'm glad to see progress. I enjoy the improvements made with the UI. It's much more efficient and effective in my opinion to use the pinned icons setup. That's not to mention all the little additions that make things so much nicer, like aero peek, jump lists, the search bar built into Windows explorer, improved taskbar icon behavior, etc.
I'm a fan of the aero look too. I guess some may not like it, but you can change it.
I don't know what you mean by adding stuff around letters. Do you mean Cleartype? You can adjust that to your preferences or turn it off completely, you know.
Oh and in response to changes in Paint: who uses that anyway? Paint.net FTW.

Nice! I got a new computer! It is my very own
. It is very fast, wireless mouse, its monitor is bigger than some TVs. It is very fast too!

Cool, but the GeForce 9xxx series was discontinued about a year and a half back (My almost 3 years old laptop has a 9600M GT). The 9xxx series is still pretty nice, but not exactly top-of-the-line. You can get a Geforce 3xx series card that is probably about twice as powerful (and only 6 months old) for about $50.
I agree with Harakou on the Win 7 discussion. XP is nice, but 7 is amazing.
Oh, and don't mess around with the kiddie toys known as MS Paint and Paint.net, go with GIMP.

I know an even better upgrade than a Windows 7! A Mac!

How did I know you were going to make a post like that? Like I said in your flameb....er...Windows vs. Mac topic, Macs are no better than Windows. In fact, I think that overall, Macs and PCs are evenly matched. Please stop shoving your opinion down our throats.

And yeah, I do mean Cleartype, but I think that should be off unless you turn it on.

@Harakou Paint.net is the best free paint tool ever.
I wish i could upgrade our computer... we use a NVIDIA 7 and it can't run half of the games I own on Steam.

How the heck am I supposed to use a Mac to play games? Now shoo. You have wasted my time.
