I don't think I could use my iPod without a jailbreak anymore. Activator and SBSettings are pretty much indispensable for me, and I have lots of other tweaks like Infinifolders and Multifl0w that make lots of improvements too. Themes are really nice to have as well. So I guess as long as you know what you're doing (you have to do some research to make sure you're using the right utility for your iPod model/iOS version.), I'd go for it.

My Backstory/Opinion:
Jailbreaking was a necessity before 4.0. Now it's not quite as necessary, as Apple has added such features as multitasking, backgrounds, and categories. When my 2nd gen iTouch broke a year ago, i started saving up money for the 4G. I finally got it and I was surprised at how many nice changes there are. I jailbroke it anyway, only to find out that most of my favorite repoes were shut down :( That was a bit of a disappointment, but there are still plenty of useful things on Cydia, like SBSetting and MXTube.

Pros:
+Themes (Get Winterboard.
+SBSetting(Quick access to settings. It's very useful for changing brightness and wifi.)
+MXTube(Youtube downloader)
+Tons of cool tweeks(though many cost money).

Cons:
-Themes usually slow down loading apps, pop ups, and such.
-Many things haven't been updated for the latest versions of iOS.
-Most repoes are shut down, so the "coolest" stuff usually costs money (not more than a few bucks($1-$5)).
-Cydia takes FOREVER to load!

Tips:
1) Read a lot about preforming a Jailbreak. Trust me;)
2) Back everything up! It's likely that it will all be erased.
3) Be patient.
