Re: Interview for ScratchNews -comment if interested

How did you get involved in Scratch? Annoying schoolteacher who always mispronounced my name.
What's your favorite Scratch project and why? This may seem narcissistic, but my own Fight in the great hall is my favorite because it took me so much work to make.
What is something you would change about Scratch? Allow whatever topics to be made. We can handle it Scratch Team.
Describe a time when you couldn't figure out how to get a script to work. How did you solve your problem? I slept on it and figured it out the next day.
Tell me about one of your projects. The Fight in The Great Hall is a scene from the epic The Odyssey.
What are you thinking of doing for your next project? A sniper game.
What is your favorite Scratch block?

<when green flag clicked>

It has so much meaning.

Re: Interview for ScratchNews -comment if interested

I'd love to participate in this... do I respond to those questions now...?

Eh, I'll just answer those questions now, here in this post.

How did you get involved in Scratch?

A friend of mine: 1stCorinthians told me about it. I didn't actually join scratch until a few months after she told me about Scratch, but I immediately got into making projects and everything.

What's your favorite Scratch project and why?

Hmm... Tough one. I'd say Scratch Music V - Scratch MIDI by MyRedNeptune because it is absolutely amazing. It plays an absolutely beautiful song only using scratch sound blocks, and that is amazing.

What is something you would change about Scratch?

I would... hmm, I would probably love it if Scratch's paint editor would be able to have smoother images.

Describe a time when you couldn't figure out how to get a script to work. How did you solve your problem?

Actually, when I can't figure out how to get a script to work, I can't stop thinking about it. It's a lot like a puzzle, and I love puzzles. My brain won't stop thinking about it until I figure out how to fix it. Even if I'm in the middle of a class at school. Trust me, I've figured out how to fix a script in the middle of Science Class and couldn't wait to go home to fix it. Its fun, figuring the scripts out.

Tell me about one of your projects.

Then I'll have to tell you about my best project: Shadows Breach Beta Episode 1. Its not your typical everyday scratch animation at all. Though I think the animation is rather sloppy, I drew the sprites and their costumes outside of scratch and it wasn't easy to figure out how things would move so it would look more dynamic- since I have to use frame by frame animation. However, the quality is what makes it stand out from other scratch animations. SBBeta Episode 1 is a five and a half minute animation that doesn't use a single stick figure. It uses drawings in the manga style and you can see that it took a long time to create it.

What are you thinking of doing for your next project?

Another animation- SBBeta Episode 2 if I don't make another update. No spoilers though!  big_smile

What is your favorite Scratch block?

Tough question! I use a lot of blocks. I'd have to say my favorite block has to be

<broadcast[ broadcast

because its made animating a LOT easier for me.

Re: Interview for ScratchNews -comment if interested

How did you get involved in Scratch? My father wanted an 8 year old to learn programming. He was drawn to a bad drawing of a lolcat. 'Nuff sed.
What's your favorite Scratch project and why? An animation I made on an alt about a wizard cursing the Scratch Cat for using bad HTML.
What is something you would change about Scratch? It's a tie between allowing political/religious threads and removing the infamous 14 year old limit.
Describe a time when you couldn't figure out how to get a script to work. How did you solve your problem? I never solve that problem. I just... give up.
Tell me about one of your projects. ChaOS. It's a hunk of primitive scripts cobbled together, and stuck together by spit and prayers. My favourite part is the name. Chaos+OS=ChaOS.  tongue
What are you thinking of doing for your next project? I quit Scratch. I only use the forums.
What is your favorite Scratch block? The "When Green Flag Clicked" block. It's the Alpha and the Omega.

What is something you would change about Scratch? FILE I/O BLOCKS AND MESH!
I want to play multiplayer!!
Describe a time when you couldn't figure out how to get a script to work. How did you solve your problem? Experimenting.
Tell me about one of your projects. My platformer is just a small idea of what I'll make later..
What are you thinking of doing for your next project? Shard OS: An OS meant to top the SynOS standards.  tongue

Helltank and Bbbeb, and anyone else who comments later, you will be in a subsequent edition of ScratchNews, which I intend to get out every week, possibly every two weeks. I will try to keep you updated. And if you could each provide me with a sprite to represent yourself, it would be appreciated.

Also, further questions:

Helltank-Can you explain what the 14-year old limit is? What do you like to do on the forums? Do you do any programming besides Scratch?

Bbbeb-What are file I/O blocks and mesh and what do they have to do with multiplayer? Can you give me an example of how use use the wait-1-second block?

How did you get involved in Scratch?

Well, I got involved because  of GarSkutherGirl.

What's your favorite Scratch project and why?

The project called 'Portal 2 has Stolen My Life', because it's about Portal, and the art is VERY well done.

What is something you would change about Scratch?

I would change the 10 MB limit to 13 MB.

Describe a time when you couldn't figure out how to get a script to work. How did you solve your problem?

Well, I couldn't get a script to work for choosing a random sound, and I figured out it wasn't supposed to be the names, it was supposed to be numbers.

Tell me about one of your projects.

My Interactive Curiosity core is a fixed remix of GarSkutherGirl's. Why it got so many views I have no idea.....

What are you thinking of doing for your next project?

An interactive turret. I just need to put in some sounds and finish scripting it.

What is your favorite Scratch block?

I don't really have a favorite, but I guess the 'play sound' block. It lets you listen to music.  smile

And also, Spritemaster, after looking at your projects, I've got some more questions for you:
You've got a ton of projects. Where do you get your ideas from?
You also have a lot of views, etc. To what do you attribute your success?
Where does the name, Spritemaster, come from?
What is your favorite thing to do on Scratch?
What advice would you give a New Scratcher, based on your experiences?

What is something you would change about Scratch? 60 second rule for Scratchers over 1 year old GAHHH
Describe a time when you couldn't figure out how to get a script to work. How did you solve your problem? I...uh....threw it away and tried another.
Tell me about one of your projects. Well, StickMania Episode 7 came out and I really think it was much more funny, and creative than some others.
What are you thinking of doing for your next project? Road to Lolliland Part 5where Roger and Steve get there at the same time.
What is your favorite Scratch block? pick random ( ) to ( ) Endless possibilities  big_smile

Other questions you had:

You've got a ton of projects. Where do you get your ideas from? Everyday life, naturally. I have a weird family  and weird friends so...
You also have a lot of views, etc. To what do you attribute your success? Not much really, A Day In The Life Of Mario got me going.
Where does the name, Spritemaster, come from? I had an old user - bauiop90 - and I really like sprites so I made an alt. account called SpriteMaster and I eventually went to that as a main account.
What is your favorite thing to do on Scratch? Post projects.
What advice would you give a New Scratcher, based on your experiences? Don't quit, and comment on a lot of projects. Love it a lot of projects. Be nice.

File I/O allows you to use .txt files for Scratch. Like save files, and such. And Mesh lets you connect to other Scratch Programs with different people.

And you can use the Wait-1-Second block to delay the script and time it. For accuracy and such.  big_smile

You must be 14 years old to be a mod. Let's just say flamethrowers were pulled out when the mod sprung this on us.

I like to post on the forums. ^_^

Not really. I've done a random name generator as part of a school presentation on Adaptations(for the quiz) using Javascript, and helped build a website with my HTML knowledge, but that's my full portfolio.

Re: Interview for ScratchNews -comment if interested

How did you get involved in Scratch?

A friend showed it to me.. and I was suddenly intrigued.  Therefore, the Scratch account "MKR" was born!

What's your favorite Scratch project and why?

My favorite Scratch project would have to be my Christmas Tree Connection, or the current collaboration I am working on now, "The Butterfly Tree"!  It is truly amazing.. and will be out soon!

What is something you would change about Scratch?

I would personally change Scratch to where you could create projects online. However, I did hear that you will be able to do that with the next version of Scratch.  Everything I would change is already being worked on by the phenomenal MIT Team.

Tell me about one of your projects.

One of my projects in the making is "The Butterfly Tree" as I have mentioned before.  I am working on this project with several awesome Scratchers! I am working on it with: Silvershine, wmays, LiquidMetal, Clank23, kingdomhearts32, chipguy, gerbils800, and pokemongarvedoir.  It will feature mini-games, challenges, great graphics, and hopefully some multiplayer games.  We will see though.. look out for it!

What are you thinking of doing for your next project?

Hopefully more projects with my other Collaborations working together to create awesome games like our Flight Simulator programmed by jjiskyline.

What is your favorite Scratch block?

My favorite Scratch block would be most of the sensing blocks that work together to create games and keep all of the scripts in working order.

What is something you would change about Scratch? The sprite editor.

What are you thinking of doing for your next project? An RPG with Collabratory or Garageband Scratched with Technoguyx, though Collabratory's sorta falling apart.

And for tell me about one of your projects (Skipped it, sorry), the Word project was a very tedious project to make, but I like it  big_smile  It was worth it, even though I had to put every letter in the alphabet as a costume, and then make a script for each one.
And gah, I forgot to end with [b]'s  tongue

I'd really like to be in this newspaper thingy!
1. My sister was on it, and I was curious, so I joined when I was about 8.
2. I really liked Jaiku's anime, Shadows Breach Beta episode 1. I liked it because it's only the first episode of something, yet it's so suspenseful! Lots of action to keep me entertained.
3. I would change the forums, so that there was a whole forum about advice. Not for Scratch, like advice for people in their real lives.
4. I couldn't get my voice recordings from my iPod to Scratch, but then I found a way! I burned a CD of my recording and it worked, but later I discovered an easier technique to get my recordings and music to Scratch. (Make a WAV copy of the recording on iTunes)
5. I have a project that has all the lyrics to a Lady Gaga song, and, though I made it with EXTREMELY simple scripts, I worked hard making each background work, please check it out!
6. I'm making a new series called Red Streak. It's about a boy who has to cope with the sadness of something tragic (No spoilers) that happens to him, and the bullying that comes with it.
My favorite Scratch block is probably the play sound block. (Without that I wouldn't have most of my projects.)

These things are long so if you need to shorten it it's OK.

Goodbye, Misc. Until we meet again.
You're not alone.
