Re: What's YOUR Scratch Story?

Well when i first discovered scratch, i was playing on the totally awsome gamesite, Nitrome, and one day in their blog, there was some links to Nitrome-games made in scratch. first i didn't even follow the links, but another day, i cheked it out, and was like o_O (also because only one of the links worked).

next day i didn't know why, but i just had to go back to that site! i looked at other peoples projects, i remember that string art was up at the moment! then i got my account, and kinda egoistic i thougt "im gonna have the coolest icon on this site" cus i know how to make animations in GameMaker, wich i've been using before. soon i saw that like half of all scratchers had animated icons (lol!) and mine didn't even loop! what?!

anyways i had to get the program, cus i was SO interested in programming, and now i could actually show people! YAYZ!! the first commenter was paddle2See, and we started talking, and soon we was "Friends", thougt im 12, and hes like... grown up i think?

when i went to see his projects, i found out what an awsome scratcher he is! its unbeliveable! i also saw that he was the discoverer of string art.
i really hope somebody took time to read all this, cus this is MY SCRATCH STORY!

HI! Im dying to know what you think about my newest project! please chek it out!

Re: What's YOUR Scratch Story?

My history with game creation was a long and hard one. 5 years ago in third grade I had this thing that I did during class to pass time, and I made these little sheets of paper with boxes that described a picture of a game i made up. i did stuff like metroid and star wars, just really boring paper games. after a while in 6th grade I came up with an idea for a game. it was really far fetched at the time being as i had no way to make it so I looked on the internet for 2 years trying to find an engine right for me. I finally found this thing called "game maker". It was a card based adventure maker. I made the layout for the game's prequil on that engine but the action was terrible and it is almost impossible to make an fps on a card based engine but it was halfway decent. The game was "BATTLE MACHINE COMBAT BATTALIAN" and it was ok right. (just to let u know, the original game is being engineered right now on scratch) after that I got obsessed with guitar hero and eventually bought a guitar, I liked the game so much that I wanted to make a drumming version, but as u all know the card based gameplay was terrible. A little while later i got into the band "Def Leppard" and that was when I went to the library to find a java scripting book because I knew that the card based animation would kill the game itsself, so I looked up a java running program and BAM! I found SCRATCH. I made a small account called clonefriek (still on but not used any more) and quickly used the scripts from an existing guitar hero game. I fixed up a few of the sprites and put in a couple songs. I got like 5 views but I was so amazed that I had made it. after awhile I learned how to use scratch and made an fps with my neighbor whose screen name is Tpayne174 and the game was called ninja shooter. you can play it on his page but after awhile i got bored so I formed "Deskjem" and made a computer system. I guess the name just stuck, but now I focus more on science and complexity more than games themselves. That was my "Scratch Story".

Here's my Scratch Story:

Okay, I found out about Scratch when I was looking for an easy game programmer. Well, actually, I was originally looking for a Mario level editor. Here's how it happened: Mario Forever was too gitchy and The Lunar Magic level editor was too complicated. I was looking ALL over for game programmers, but all of them either needed to be bought, or were too complicated.

Then, one day, I typed into Google: "Mario Maker" and sure enough, there was a Scratch project called "Mario Maker". At first, I didn't know what Scratch was, so I just skipped right over it. But when I went back to it, I saw that it was programmed by a normal person like me! When I figured out that I could make games like that, I decided to give Scratch a try... and at my first sight, I knew I had found the game programmer I had been looking for!

At first, it wasn't all that easy... I needed to learn about the blocks, scripts, and sprites... but I got the hang of it! Now, I make great projects, create little-kid games for my baby cousin, have plenty of friends on Scratch, and run my own Scratch Website! I love Scratch, and I think that everyone who wants to make games should download it! And I am very proud to say...
SCRATCH ON!  big_smile

What's YOUR Scratch Story?

My scratch story is my big brother suggested this and decided to give it a try. My first ever project was a get well card for my bffl Jaylen. ^__^

Re: What's YOUR Scratch Story?

My son wants to be a game designer.  I went online looking for something that would inspire him to create games instead of playing them all day.  I came across scratch & was hooked.
I love it even more than he does I think.  I only know some graphic design to help me create stuff.  Being able to create these animations is so much fun!

Re: What's YOUR Scratch Story?

I got tired of Roblox and wanted some sort of Java engine I could post games I made on a website with. And sure enough, thats where this came from.

Or theres the least glamerous tale about me typing in "anti roblox" to find people to troll, and somehow that lead here, but I like my original story better  big_smile

Re: What's YOUR Scratch Story?

How did I find out about Scratch....?

Well, (makes modest smile as if I was a scientist who just found a cure for cancer)

My school has a Scratch club headed by my math teacher.  It was formed in september, but I didn't join until october. I joined because many of my friends were in it. I tried using Scratch, and made a game where a boy flies around in an enclosed area. Sadly, I never uploaded it to Scratch. At the next meeting, I made my Scratch account. I decided to download Scratch at home too, so I did.

Not a big story, but it's the truth.

EXCLUSIVE INFO:I'm working on a third game for my R.E.D. series.

Re: What's YOUR Scratch Story?

I have always wanted to make games!  I found out about scratch at school and, well, I downloaded it!
At first, I was really new at it and couldn't make a thing!  Then, I took a break at making games and looked at other people's games that were good.  I found out lots of stuff and now I can make great games!  Once in awhile I come across a hard glitch, and I think its impossible because nobody used it so I can't look at it, but I can think of a new way that works!

Re: What's YOUR Scratch Story?

My Scratch story is that:
One day at school, I worked on my new Chicken in A Bucket comic. Then my best friend (AnonyMoose) came. We started to talk. Then I told him "I always wanted to bring my comics to life in a form of a game, but all the programmes are too hard"
He thought for a moment and said: "I can remember something called Scratch, or something"
Hmm... Scratch. Sounds interesting.
So when I got home I wanted to Google up Scratch. But I forgot how it was called!
It was Friday evening so I couldn't be bothered waiting until Monday (have you ever met a 13 year old who looks forward to Monday!?)
Anyway, I phoned AnonyMoose and asked him about Scratch. He reminded me the name of it, I went on it and downloaded it.
At first I was confused but slowly learned the basics but I slowly learned it and brought Chicken in A Bucket to life.
So far I've made plenty of projects (No one looks up them anyway) but I still get the satisfaction of making them.

My scratch story:

I'm a software engineer (that is, I write software for a living) and I've written a few games.

My daughter asked me for some pointers on how to start programming so I pointed her to the Scratch web site.  She got stuck on a few points and asked me for some help.  I didn't know scratch, so I downloaded it and played around with it for a couple of days.  In that time, I wrote Hunt the Wumpus (where I did everything wrong!) and Scratch Rocks! (where I finally did things right).

I answered her questions, but now I find that writing in Scratch is so fun that I have ideas for lots of new games....
