I know only I can make this decision, but I'd like advice please ;3
Okay, so I have extremely flat feet. I mean, REALLY flat. I've tried wearing corrective orthotics, but they hurt so much being forced into an arch that they make me walk like a duck and are so painful it's impossible to wear them for longer than an hour.
My specialist (who rebuilt my ankle last year) has said that there is a surgical option that involves drilling plates and pins into both my feet to form arches.
Thing is, I would be in a wheelchair and would have to learn to walk again. And as it is pioneering there is a risk it could go wrong or not work at all. And the risks associated witha anaesthesia... D:
I've already spent 1.5 years of my life on crutches, and used to get pushed over in the street for the fun of it, so I'm a little wary :L
If you were in my situation, what would you do? Advice is totally appreciated, and if you have a question before you judge, I'll answer it =^,^=

So, you can't walk because of it?
I would get the surgery, but i would be wary...
Also, get a good doctor (I once had a n allergy specialist, and knew more than them >:O)

I can walk now, I'm out of my ankle cast and walking again - it just hurts [removed] after a long walk, and the insoles stop me walking altogether :L
And it can only get worse...
Yep, my doctor's okay, he knows what he's doing ^.^

I feel really bad for you
Then again, i feel bad for one my old computer technician.. poor man and wife...
Also, yeah.. Only worse
And learning to walk again isn't that bad! You can learn to walk properly

It's really your choice. But even if you have to learn to walk again, it's only less than 1/70 of your life.
I'd research the surgery (see if it is safe and tested) online.

I've had two surgeries (Both on my eye) and have come out OK. Can you walk without the surgery? (Thinking about it, surgery is such an odd word. Think about it. say it a lot. surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery surgery
Such an odd word, isn't it?) That's all. Thanks for reading this pointless post. Goodbye

my dad got eye surgery when he was 5.
he was ok, and they had to cut an eye muscle, really hard. im sure youll be ok, but its really up to you. do you trust it will go ok? do you believe in your ability to learn to walk again when youve had surgery? think about it

If the arch in your foot is not corrected, it could hurt even more later in your life than the orthodics do.
I would go with the surgery, because if you learned how to walk when you were a mindless infant, i think you could learn to walk as an educated teenager/child(forgot your age
)

I would take the surgery. So far I've had 3 surgeries in 3 years, and I'm perfectly fine. However, expect some problems with anesthesia. As in, don't try to eat until about 15 mins after you wake up, or you will get sick. Also, you won't really be fully conscious until about an hour after you wake up. And you may have a mild reaction to the anesthesia. My first surgery, I was sick on the way home from the hospital, because of the mix they used. Still, it's better than years of pain.

I think you should just walk around barefoot
Sorry for being a completely unhelpful dimwit. Please continue with your conversation.

I don't know what you should do, I am kinda in the same position (though my feet aren't extremely flat, and aren't quite bad enough to need surgery). My feet hurt really badly after alot of walking (especially in sneakers or dress shoes), also.
I guess what you want to do depends on what you feel is the best route. If you think the corrective insoles aren't worth the trouble, get the surgery. Neither me or anyone else here can make the decision for you. In my case, I think I'll get some of those Dr. Scholls customized insoles you see the TV commercials about.

My little brother (King630) has had TEN surgeries, eight of them on his ear, one tooth surgery, and one on his face. He's had seven sets of ear tubes, and some fake ear bones put in. My other not as young brother, nickbrickmaster, (I'm the oldest) has had two surgeries for a eye that drifts a lot. My mom and dad have had surgeries, but I'm not sure what for. I have not had any surgeries, and I plan to keep it that way.

Sorry to hear about this TDD. I would do what you think is better. There are risks in both.

Last time, they put the surgery back 9 hours because some baby hurt it's leg and needed it's cast changing. I hadn't ate for 22 hours and felt like death :L
@poemon - Aww, that's sad :C My doctor told me I might never walk properly again...
@imnotbob - I rtsut myself, but last time, the day after I got my walking cast removed, I FELL DOWN THE STAIRS and was back on crutches >_< I still walk a little odd now O.o
@ssss - It's just frustrating when people push you over in the street, or wonder why you're on crutches just because you're not in a cast. It's kinda sad. :L I guess I could survive it again ;D
@fire219 - It's reassuring to know you're in the same position C: I've got Dr. Scholl's Orthaheel, but I can only wear them for about an hour at a time else the pain keeps me awake at night -_-
@NickBrickMaster - I can walk, just with difficulty and I can't wear some shoes because the built-in arches hurt :L
@Nexstudent - That's what I thought: if I get it fixed, I'll hopefully be okay in later life; and plus walking with an odd gait is hurting my knees ;__; And lol, I'm 13 so teenager ^^

If you can't walk anyways, it can't get worse. So I say go with it.
But of course, it's still your choice.

I can walk, but if I walk for AGES, it starts to hurt and I get clumsy (fall over my own feet) XD
I think I'm gonna get back to my specialist and get referred to the Children's Hospital then (;

I have flat feet too. They're not that bad, but as for your own you should probably do surgery. Do your parents have insurance though?

Cool, does the whole of your foot touch the floor?
And I can get the surgery on the NHS, so no worries there ^^ One positive thing about the British Government, I guess XD

Oh no. You have a sickness called 'teenage laziness'.
jk. I vote for surgery. How long would you go without walking?

Man, I feel bad for you. If I were in your shoes (lame pun), I would probably go for the surgery at a time that suits you. Maybe in the holidays, so you have less exposure to the public in a wheelchair.
But don't forget that there are people stranded in wheelchairs for the rest of their lives, it's nothing unusual to be in one.
And besides, if you're mentally strong, you may actually flick away all that life throws at you as if they were mere flies in your ointment.
Go for it, but remember that everything has it's consequences, and we just have to deal with it.

Probably about 6 months in all, if I had both feet done at the same time ^^
