iCompositions has a great way of doing search results. Once you enter your query and press enter, you get a search result dropdown that sorts your search into three categories; song titles, usernames, and forum posts. It's kind of like Spotlight search for Mac OS X.

Site: http://www.icompositions.com/

This could be adapted into scratch, except with projects, users, galleries, and forum posts.

Re: Scratch 2.0: What are you searching for?

I like the new interface for viewing the project, seeing the views, lovits and seeing the description. But, I don't really like the left menu bar. It seems to basic with almost no pictures.

Re: Scratch 2.0: What are you searching for?

With select tool you should be able to select whatever shape you want instead of box, make it possible to change size of the stage so there is no need to do scrolling.

Make a camera tool, so you can set camera to zoom in on the player and follow him, and so you can make it move anywhere whenever you want in game.

I don't know if I just can't do it properly, but make it so when you shoot a bullet sprite, it doesn't need to come back to a gun so you can shoot it again.

There also should be a pause game script.

If you could add a gravity tool so you don't need to make it for yourself that would be cool, because it's really hard to make a gravity in game and it's never perfect.

And when is this new version coming out?

The mock-ups look very interesting! Search is one of the most important things on the web...

One thing I dislike about this second mockup however is that it appears that you can immediately play the top searched result from the search engine. This brings up some questions. Will that search then count as a view for that project? That would be pretty unfair if you ask me. Even then, won't this make it less likely that the person will click on the link, if they can just play the project right there? I personally think adding thumbnail images next to the search results would be very useful (I believe there is a chrome extension that does that for google), however including the flash-player is not needed.

...should there be an advanced search? I think yes...

+1. I don't think that it should count as a view as well. And I think thumbnail images would be better instead of previews, simply because Scratch has such a wide variety of Scratch projects that one type of preview wouldn't cooperate with other projects as well as others. I also don't see how a preview for a game could work, or any other projects with a lot of broadcast blocks, as they cue things on demand. The only way a preview for a game could work is if it just stopped at a certain time.

Does that make sense?  tongue

Also the tool to hide the mouse cursor would be good and some tool so you can make it that when a bullet for example hits an enemy, his health decreases once everytime he's hit, not like now when it decreases health as long as it goes through enemy

I don't think you need a specific tool, necessarily, but just need to do some coding for it.

However, I do think the hiding the cursor would be a good idea, especially for shooter games and the like.

Re: Scratch 2.0: What are you searching for?

I wish that you could search for someone's project on their page.
For example, take a popular scratcher with a lot of projects, like Astro.  Let's say that we wanted to find the project The Candy Bar 3.  It would take a long time to find, because Astro has over 100 pages of projects. If you could have a search bar, you could type in 'Candy Bar 3' or even 'Candy Bar' and you'd have one, maybe two pages of results.  Looking through one or two pages is faster than looking through 100, right?

Re: Scratch 2.0: What are you searching for?

scratch search = google image search, maybe.
it would need a lot of work.
WHEN YOU SEARCH DISPLAY A THUMBNAIL BESIDE THE SEARCH RESULTS, (for an example check out the google chrome extension called 'search Preview")
also, ditch the chrome Theme. nobody likes chrome keep with the blue theme already here.

This may be irrelevant but i only friend people on the site in order to follow them and have quick access to their newest projects. I think, like youtube people could subscribe to or follow your recent activity as well as/or instead of friend you.

Take an idea from facebook and twitter and stick to the roots of the site, remodel the homepage and everyone is happy.

Re: Scratch 2.0: What are you searching for?

I would like to be able to take out a single block from a chain of blocks. Also, I would like to have a higher resolution so it is possible to make better looking games, and of course, for it to run faster!

Re: Scratch 2.0: What are you searching for?

You should make it so that you can add a star to a search result (like the ones in Gmail). That way you could make the starred ones come up at the top, then the other ones. You could also search for only starred ones.  big_smile
