i think he means that you don't really need to be proud of what we are, being LGBT is no better than being straight, or vice versa. they're equal, just are what they are
sometimes we tend to forget that in life.
there's no reason to be ashamed, no reason to feel superior by any means.

I disagree. Anyone, be they straight or gay, black or white, Christian or Muslim, American or Mexican, has the right to feel proud of themselves.

Sure it is but it doesn't mean any one group is better.

That's not what he's saying. Jeff's saying that people can be proud of whatever they are, whoever they are.

What is there to be proud of? You're attracted to both genders. And? Homosexuality/bisexuality is no big deal, but you're treating it like it is, which is only making your position worse.
Now, if you have a valid reason why they shouldn't be proud of themselves, argue against me, but you're not going to achieve anything with me.

Proud that he can come out openly about it. You clearly have no idea how hard it can be for LGBT people to come out to family and friends about it. Just the other day, my friend Kane (who is gay) told his mother that he is transexual. He was crying, just like he cried when he told her he was gay. Also, when everyone is putting you down because of your sexuality, you HAVE to stick with who you are and BE proud of who you are. Proud of the fact that you aren't afraid of how others will treat you. Proud TO BE YOURSELF.
I agree. It's funny though, you have a big paragraph, then in your signature, "Gerard approves."
Kane sounds like a great guy.

To be honest, if we keep the discussion civilized and we are not in any way sexist, this discusion should be okay...

I definitely agree that people should be proud of themselves and feel self-worth regardless of their sexual orientation.
What I'm saying is that you shouldn't be SPECIFFICALLY proud for your homosexuality. I'm straight, and I don't go around say I'm proud of that. That's just what I am. Same for homosexuals and bisexuals.

You don't have to face the kind of opposition we do. We get bullied everyday by people we thought were our friends. Do some of us, our Parents disown is. We people trying to pass laws to negate our rights. We have entire religious groups devoted to making us feel terrible. We are attacked at every turn. Accepting who you are makes you stronger. When your comfortable with yourself, you feel secure enough to take on those who wish you would just die.
Also, what I hear you saying is:
"Everyone has the right to feeling self-word, except homosexuality.

I agree wholeheartedly, though I actually have no idea of my sexual orientation.
Too many people are against homosexuals, and so those homosexuals have to be especially proud of themselves.

Just because you don't show your pride doesn't mean others shouldn't.

Yeah, everyone has the right to be proud.
I'm proud of being straight, but that doesn't mean I think I'm superior to LGBT people. Basically, its being proud of who you are, no matter who that is.

Err... did you even freaking read my post? I was saying that everybody should feel self-worth, including homosexuals. I just don't think they should be specifically proud of their homosexuality.
And also, if you're trying to make the LGBT community look strong, you crying and moaning about your problems isn't going to help. Go do something to change it, instead of making yourself look weak.

It's about taking pride in what everyone else sees as weird.
Also, who said we were crying and moaning? Have you even read a single post in this entire thread?
