I'm on 24/7 and would be honored to be a mod in a chat room.
It's kind of you to volunteer, but you would probably only be able to moderate one chat room.

No..
<script type="text/javascript"> function disp_alert() { alert("Error! Error!" + '\n' + "Virus Installed"); } </script>
means that it is a page script.

I do agree that scratch does not need any chatrooms, but I;m somehow wrapped on the idea of hidden messages. Maybe you and your friend on scratch want to discuss (oh lets just say) a game that your both secretly working on. It'd be simpler that posting it on their project and having them delete it.
Sorta like how scratch sends messages to scratchrs. And the scratchers who receive the message should be able to flag it if it's bad.
I know the idea won't be established, but one can hope.

What if the moderators chose Scratchers to be chatroom mods? And there could be a "report" button if someone is being mean. There could also be a censor dictionary, where it would block all bad words. Or what if the chat rooms were only open when there was a mod there? Or what if chat room moderators each had an assigned time slot for ever day/week/month/ when they had to be on to moderate?

Take a look at the forums, which already has a censor list and a report system - it already takes a lot of mods, plus some help from the Scratch Team, to help moderate these forums. A chat room is much harder to moderate than the forums, and maintaining it places extra burden on the Scratch Team and moderators (even if extra ones are added for chatrooms).
I think Lightnin puts it best when he said this about flamebait issues in Miscellaneous: Most of our mods are volunteers who freely donate their time because they love Scratch. So it's not fair to ask them to spend so much of their time dealing with arguments that have nothing to do with Scratch. My guess is the same idea goes for chat rooms, whose moderation and maintenance costs are just not worth it for this website.

Then how about a quick chat, like the one on Club Penguin? Where you can't type things, but there is a pre-determined list of phrases and stuff you can choose from, so then there wouldn't be a need for mods.

A quick-chat? That's fine on Club Penguin, but I don't see how it would be any use on Scratch. And I don't see how it would be implemented...

Quick-chat would have to be really big to fit in enough messages to be useful... and you can't give much detail about things (what help do you need in your collaboration? what script do you want me to fix? what sprites do you want?).

*Cough* *Cough* TBG Forums *Cough* *Cough*
No seriously, there are a bunch of mods there every day to mod something that isn't even related.
What if you got mods to mod it and make it like the TBGs?
