Alright... What is the scope for the galaxies? Are we going to make several galaxies of a lot of stars, or just a few stars, how many stars? I know how to put all of the stars and planets in one or two sprites, and this would make the shop entering and the planet type easier to do (saves us a lot of script and sprite duplicating). The method I'm thinking of (Listing all of the planet's variables on a list) will be effective with about 30 solar systems at the most (otherwise there is a huge lag, even in Turbo mode). We can make several sprites each responsible for different sets of planets, which would help. Or do we already have a system for this? Either way, ALONE needs some major editing if we want to turn it into Elite.

I don't know, if I misunderstand you, but ALONE was already changed into DRAFT 2.1.

I'm going to try to fix the spaceship glitch. And if you didn't notice, there are certain story panels that pop up when you discover a new planet and at the beginning of the game. What should I do with those? I'd delete them, but they might be useful later if we want to add a storyline or something like that.

Guys can someone e-mail me the drop box details?

What I mean is that the program itself needs some major editing if we want it to have a whole bunch of solar systems. This one only has 4, and there's no enemies, battling, or hyperspace. So we need to change some things unless we want separate sprites for each star and each planet. And the plan was to have A LOT of solar systems, right?

I got the details fine and I looked at the latest draft of the game.
And I'm pretty impressed
I see how you guys made it so you could scroll across a large area.
I remember made something before with that engine:

What other things are you guys gonna do to the game?
All I could suggest is about some of the graphical design, apart from that its great

I'm sorry Blob to have you do so much work, but can you email me the details too? The username and pass I know won't work. [email removed by request of the poster]

Thanks Blob for the email. I just finished checking out the first draft, and here are some areas of improvement that can be made:
1. The scrolling is fine for now, but if possible, it should be made a bit smoother.
2. There needs to be an objective. I don't know what the story line of the original elite is, but there should be an objective to the game- it can't just be about exploration.
3. Some of the font and art should be redone to make it look more sophisticated. I'll try to do that and put it up as the next draft.

The original Elite doesn't really have a story — it's a sandbox, open-ended style of game. There are overall goals — like upgrading the ship, and aquiring the status of "Elite" — but there's no story or overarching objective.

Like Minecraft, which is a very successful game.
Sorry, I have been busy- what do you want me to do?

Oh, and has anyone claimed the right to making the new spaceship sprite? I could do that too.
I could also do backrounds since i am an artist.

Ok. I uploaded a brand new version. Please Download it (Draft 2.3) and look at the commend listing all changes of the new version. // Has anyone noticed, that pressing the space key, while being on the "Game Over" screen, brings you back to the transmission?

Nice I'll check it out! And no, I haven't noticed that.
Hey guys, when do you think a stable release will be available? I was thinking we could work a little bit on our trailer when we are ready to post the project on our account.

I can help with the trailer. @dasblokendeschaf: I'll have a look at that.

Hm. I think the most basic stuff is done. We still have to:
1. Implement the shop fragment.
2. Enlarge the galaxy (in the moment it might be a bit too small, if it should make much fun exploring it).
3. Programm a fighting system (with enemys having an AI).
(4. Add a story and missions)
5. Add some special things, that make this game unique and different to the original one. I thought about:
-Something like a space restaurant, where you can eat, drink and gamble (easy to programm, but adds a lot).
-You could build special houses (like mines), that you could place on the planets by accesing a menu, that alpears when you click on a planet. These house whouldn't be sightable on the planet. They can be managed and upgraded in a menu.
-A place, where you can buy new spaceships, repair and upgrade them.
...Just some thoughts. But to come back to the old trailer question, the quality and the fun of the game mustn't suffer just because we announced it too early, and we had to bring it out as fast as possible. So if you really want to go on working on the trailer, do it. But better work more on the actual project, the game. I listed the things, I thought the game would need. Now it's up to you to help making it a great success.

I don't know, if you like it, but I made a new promotion picture for our game, that could be shown in the trailer. It's on the dropbox.
