Is there a way to bypass "Updating Thumbnails" in the import sprite?

I'm trying to make an OS and have some background pictures in my computer. Whenever I click import, because I have so many large pictures in that folder, My computer takes about 5 mins to Update thumbnails. Since I can only import one sprite at a time, this is a tedious process!

It shouldn't have to update the thumbnails every time you browse to that folder. The only time it has to update is if there are new images in there. I don't think there's anything you can do about it though. Scratch needs that to be able to show thumbnails of the images.  hmm

New images or you haven't visited. ;P
I don't know what the problem is either.  hmm

Try moving just the ones you want into a different folder.

This has happened to me before, so when it happens, try moving your mouse over the box. Sometimes, there is a glitch where you have to mouse over the thumbnails for them to appear.

Re: Is there a way to bypass "Updating Thumbnails" in the import sprite?

I also had the same problem on my ubuntu machine. Turned out that installed (apt-get install scratch) version of Scratch came with obsolete "thumbnails.db" file. The application tried to modify it. That did not work out, because thumbnails file was owned by root and the application was run as nonprivileged user.

After I ran Scratch as root and opened all picture folders, every thumbnails.db file updated properly and then I could run scratch as ordinary user without constantly "updating thumbnails" message popping up and waiting for it to complete.
