What do you think. If someone made a mario on scratch sprite maker and someone else copied sprites from spriters-resources, which would be the better mario project?
Just curious for when I make projects.
Scratch drawn sprites Points: 5
Internet copied sprites Points: 7

Depends. Is the drawn one look more like mario than the one from spriters-resource?

Well, most of the time what I see(not all the time) the scratch made sprite is not as well looking.
If thats the case, than the one from spriters-resource

if you can make your own sprites i think you should try but sometimes its nice to have really good looking ones and using existing images is easier.

Official sprites look much more professional. But what it really comes down to is how fun your game is, is the movement smooth, is the engine glitchless/near-glitchless, etc.
However, if you can make good sprites, I say go for it. I made the banner in my sig =P

Online ones unless you make the online ones!

I prefer projects that use hand drawn sprites like this one:

Very often, nice looking sprites and a very simple mechanism make a real cool project.
To me, stickyman projects aren't nice at start. Sorry for this form of racism. I don't even bother looking at them (anyway, I have to select which projects I'm going to look at, as every day hundreds of projects are added).
Home made sprites can be cool too. What is important is if you spend some time thinking to them. So, Neo is a real good project.

Well that project has great sprites. They are really well drawn. I think that stickfigures and squiqqles are not good. Its just lazy. If you are a horrible artist, use the premade types. If you are the next da vinci, make your own and share it with 27,000 active users!

I think that it depends what you want the effect of your project to be. Yes, usually sprites taken from the internet do look better, but in exchange you give up your project's originality. If you use them, your project will not be all yours; some of the credit goes to whoever made the sprites. It's your choice: visuals or originality.
(But if you are a good artist, just use your own. They will probably be more appreciated)

I prefer to draw my sprites in expensive graphics programs . But I admire people like MyRedNeptune, Boopaloo, and MahoAshley who can churn out hand-draw artwork instead of relying on programs like Photoshop and Flash like I do. So, I would say that better sprites do make better projects, but it's nice to know that people put work into making their sprites (I draw the like at composing their own background music
).

Mario question: If the project is mean to be realistic and if the project is entirely internet sprites, then internet sprites I think are better. However, hand drawn sprites can be good too - fullmoon's post above mine makes sence here. So check me up for 'internet sprites'.
Forum topic question: If the sprites are excellent but the coding is horrible then they can make the project better. But, If a project is excellently coded yet sprites are horrible then they can make the project seem worse then it is.
