Icon trouble

I keep reducing the size of a 40 frame, 771 KB gif i made for my icon that took hours to make and even when I made it 50x50 it was STILL too big! Please help me get it to fit I don't want to have wasted 3 hours on something I can't even use. The time I got it really small it was still 132 KB. This is the 771 KB one. If you can reduce it for me, please do it. http://i56.tinypic.com/2qb53f4.gif

Re: Icon trouble

I suppose you could try reducing the number of frames... when you have that many it's bound to take up a fair amount of space. I don't know what the size limit for an icon in Scratch is though. Does anyone else know?

I did some searching around and it seems like the size of the image file has to be 90 KB or lower (source).

Now there is a way to optimize GIF's (some programs like GIMP have a function that optimizes frames for you), and I used GIMP to see if I can reduce the size. I reduced to down to something like 565 KB (which is still too big), but it's a good starting point for image reduction.

Speaking percentage-wise, it seems like you've managed to get it to about 73% of the original size. I would assume that same reduction would translate to a smaller image, so a 50 x 50 version would probably be about 96kb, which is very close to the required size.  By removing a few frames or reducing the resolution a little more it could be reduced to a usable size.

Re: Icon trouble

I got it small enough to be my icon (36x36). But how do I make it less blurry?

If I do it's too big  neutral  I just got it to fit with 89.6 (JUST below 90)

It's blurry because of the low resolution. Have you tried using cheddargirl's optimized GIF? you probably wouldn't need to reduce the size as much if you did, but that's just a guess.  hmm
