This is #1 on the list of most ignorant common claims related to music of all time. Even WORSE than claims such as a song can't be well-written if it has swearing, Simple Plan is punk rock, and even the horribly incorrect "Rap isn't real music".

I know what the first thing people are going to say: you don't have respect for other people's opinions/musical tastes. But this is an issue that's beyond musical taste.

I'm not a fan of classical music. There, I said it. I don't necessarily dislike it, it's just not the kind of stuff I like to listen to. But just because I'm not a fan of classical music, will I go and say that Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart have no talent? Of course not. Because, while they might not play the kind of music I like, they are still brilliant composers who revolutionized music as we know it. So just because I don't really like it, doesn't mean it doesn't have talent.

If anybody says that metal takes no talent, then I dare them to play some of these instrumentals front to back on any instrument.

I feel that those 4 songs would be enough to clarify that metal DOES take talent, but if you guys have any more examples, send them my way.

And what about the claim that metal songs are only about killing people? There are plenty of metal songs that aren't. There are metal songs about political issues for crying out loud. Don't make assumptions on a genre based on a few songs.

"But sanddude. Metal bands don't actually sing. They only SCREAM." Not all metal bands scream, and the ones that do usually don't scream the entire song. In fact most of them just have a breakdown in the middle with screamed vocals in it, or have a line screamed in the verse, or something like that. Metal bands that scream the entire song are extremely rare.

So any claim like this is completely false. If you think this and you’ve played all the metal songs I linked to, and have listened to a wide variety of metal songs, then get yourself to a doctor ASAP.
