I'm fairly sure I have a correct working definition of troll.
"Someone who posts offensive things and tries to get any sort of reaction."
So if you reply to a troll you lose.

Meh, if I get haters at any time, if I reply I'll probably reply in "Cool" or "Nice".
For example-
Hater: [hate comment goes here]
Me: Cool
Not to say I won't flag, though.

The other day an internet troll-thingy came into a chat I was on, threatening to hack.
It was claiming to be a girl, so I teased it by calling it a boy. BD
It might've just been a prank by one of the people there, though.

For a comeback, I think this is pretty classy!
But, in general, I find I get better results when I try to get to the root of their issues like this:
Troll: Your projects suck.
Me: Thanks for checking them out. Can you be a bit more specific about what areas you think I should work on and how you would like to see them changed?
Occasionally, that will get a useful conversation going and I might get some valuable feedback. If the response is just another insult, then I know that the person is just trying to get a rise out of me - then it's time to flag them.

Kay so as you most likely know, I have haters. More haters than socially acceptable. I made this topic to help me and anyone else who's viewers have troll-itis. DISCUSS: Generic insults and the best comebacks.
I think this was a weird idea, it would attract trolls. I'm out. IDC about haters, and you shouldn't either.
I don't see why it's a big deal.
Almost out of hand for me

they're the real problem here.

Like in Kingdom Keepers? In Maelstorm at EPCOT? (I don't know if any of you will know what that is so here)

Let me fix your definition of troll.
Wikipedia phrases it better then I do.
"A troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."
They aren't always coming off as mean, maybe ignorant (like [removed])

Urban dictionary describes hater as:
"A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person.
Hating, the result of being a hater, is not exactly jealousy. The hater doesnt really want to be the person he or she hates, rather the hater wants to knock somelse down a notch."
It's one thing to attempt exposing a flaw in a person's project (or, in the case of Scratch, expressing destructive criticism than constructive criticism), but it's something else when a person posts hate messages against a project or project owner just for the sake of invoking a reaction from the project user (and in some cases the rest of the community). The former case is what I would consider being a hater, the latter case a troll.
But regardless of the exact definition of "hater" and "troll", both cases aren't really welcome on the Scratch site.

Well, when a troll tries to come off as ignorant they usually act ignorant to someone who thinks it's offensive. (Fan Dumb.)
But come on my post was close enough.
