Esperanto

English:
The universal language. Can it happen?

Esperanto:
La universala lingvo. Poto gxi okasi?
(I know, my translation has a few grammatical errors. I'm not a very good esperanto speaker, but at least I can speak it!)

No, Eesperanto is the universal language, but since it belongs to no particular country, it is not defined as an "offical" language. See the Wikipedia page for Esperanto.

Re: Esperanto

I would support esperanto as an option, though I don't speak it yet. It is a concept as intelligent as Scratch. Easy to learn, grammar without (!) exceptions, sounds like italian or spanish. What has to be done to produce an esperanto user interface?

As far as I know there are very few people worldwide who speak Esperanto as main language. But as I understand Esperanto, it is designed to serve as an easy to learn second or bridge language for everyone. The effort to learn it is said to be approx. 25 % of the effort needed to learn e.g. English as a foreign language.

Re: Esperanto

I learned Esperanto half a century ago ... August 1959. I have always used Esperanto. It is possible to complete the basic course in less than 20 hours. You can start to use it after 10 hours learning (with mistakes). I will help you learn it. Please visit my web page at
http://esperantofre.com/edu/lernua.htm
To watch Esperanto in action, please watch one of the videos described on these pages:

Best wishes on the new year 2010,

Re: Esperanto

I just entered this forum. I'm a speaker of esperanto, too, since 2 years ago and I speak, read and write it almost daily.

I don't speak, but I'd like to learn. Maybe you could make a series of projects teaching Esperanto basics.

I would, but my small bout with Esperanto ended years ago and currently I have no idea how to speak it.  tongue

Re: Esperanto

Saluton karaj amikoj!
Hello dear friends!

I saw that in 2008 there was a intension to translate the interface of this forum to Esperanto.
Is there still this concern?
If yes, I am willing to help.

What a kind offer!  Perhaps you could present your proposal directly to the Scratch Team at help@scratch.mit.edu or by using the Contact Us form at the bottom of every page.

Re: Esperanto

@ esperanton

You are very welcome to take part in translation of not only the forum, but as well the Scratch user interface.

Status by now: Fizikisto translated 79% of the interface to Esperanto already. There was still some music vocabulary to do, and I have done part of it meanwhile, but got stuck at some point. Anyway, I would like to hand my results over to someone else. A first attempt to upload to the pootle server didn't work, and I have very little time at the moment.  But I could pass it over as a spreadsheet, a text file or as 2 lists in a Scratch project, if someone is able to upload from there.

Esperanto-Scratch seems just a few steps away!

Kind Regards
Samueldora

Re: Esperanto

[en] Meanwhile the Scratch website is 100 % translated on the pootle server as well. It only needs to be published.
