Just so you know, anyone can send emails on behalf of someone else. This is called email spoofing and it is a well-known trick that is very easy to do. Email spammers often use this technique. So next time you get an email from obama@whitehouse.gov, help@scratch.mit.edu or anyone else, think twice before you believe it is actually coming from that person. One way to check where an email is actually coming from is to check the email headers, but even that is not 100% reliable.
This post is in response to some incidents of e-mail spoofing that some users of the Scratch website were experiencing. The spoofing was/is happening on gmail, hotmail, etc. The spoofing is not happening "on Scratch." Scratch is not an email server/client.

What I don't understand, while I do know Scratch was not hacked and I shouldn't worry, is how him/her/they got the email aderesses.

I was trying to clear that up already. Thank you. No one would listen to me. The mods got to the topic first.
People, don't worry about my email hacking episode - it has nothing to do with this.
I remember when someone email spoofed me. The results were horrific. I didn't even know till my mom got mad at me. So the Scratch Team (when they got online) were very surprised when they got on and saw about this.

Thank you

I just checked my email, and of course I have more of those innapropriate emails from that innapropriate site. I might have to close my account and make a new one!
P.S.-The innapropriate site was the Email spoofers all along!

Also, if you post your email on the web or you send it to someone else, you are increasing the chances of getting spam/spoofs. It's one of those things you have to learn to be more careful about.

They would have had to search pretty hard to get my spam e-mail; I barely put it anywhere

If it was in your contacts or you signed up for Scratch with it or something.
I really think they found the emails using the userlist. The TBG userlist.

I don't use the tbgs, and I signed up before I made my spam e-mail...

Not so much. This is one way to start. So basically, if you post your email on the web, even once, the consequences will never be the same

So that explains why I got my emails in my alternate account. My real one I never posted because it had personal info in there.
Wow.

Just checked and I got some of them.
If I don't open them they won't infect right?
