Re: Scratch 2.0: Friend or Follow?

I have in the past had many people add me as their friend / follow me. I get a notification every time.
However, I delete the notifications because it would be hard not to.
Unfortunately, now I can't find every person who is following me (If they are my friend, I know)

If they added a feature that you can see all of the users who have you on their friends list, it would be helpful to be able to make friends
(also I could selfishly boost my ego by seeing how many people added me to their friends)

also, I think that social networking, although it should not be the primary focus, can be very helpful in discovering projects and creators who make similar projects, as in if a lot of users on your friend list have them on their friend list (and they aren't already on your friend list), the site could point out that user and you could go see their projects.

I mean, I am part of a minority subgroup of scratchers who are less widely popular on the front page ( mathy people ) and a lot of people in this group are friends with each other. I would rather be able to see the projects of those with similar interests than the more popular groups ( animators ).

Not to mention that it would help new scratchers become part of the community easier.

I like the current system BUT I think you should be able to stop being someone's friend.

Re: Scratch 2.0: Friend or Follow?

I think this is a good idea.  I personally don't like adding people to my friends list unless I actually know them.  Following would be a good solution to this because I can have easy access to the pages for people whose projects I like without having to call them friends.  Frankly, if I don't know you in real life, you're not actually my friend.  Maybe I'm taking this whole "friends" thing too literally, but that's how I interpret it nonetheless.  I also like DarthPickley's idea about adding a list of people that have you on their friends list (or, as it may soon be, people who are following you).  I don't know if I would use it for anything, but it seems like a good idea to me.

Re: Scratch 2.0: Friend or Follow?

I think this idea is great, because sometimes, people only add people as friends to see what they make.

Re: Scratch 2.0: Friend or Follow?

I like the current friending system. The reason I usually friend people is because I like their projects and I want to see more. If we changed that, I couldn't keep track of great projects  wink

Why not have both? The current friend system isn't even friending. It's following, but it's called friending. So why not have friend AND follow?
