Yes it does.
They said "definitely make it friend or follow."

That doesn’t make sense. Friend or follow? Which one? Both? Either way, “or” isn’t the proper conjunction, rendering the statement invalid.

Make the option to either friend or follow.

“Or” is still invalid.

You would say, “Definitely friend and follow” at the least.

Or if you meant what else that post could be interpreted as:

Then, it isn’t contributing because the idea of the topic is the decision to “friend or follow”. Hence the title, “Scratch 2.0: Friend or Follow?”.

No.

Besides, it still doesn’t contribute.

Re: Scratch 2.0: Friend or Follow?

Alright... So I really haven't been on for a long time but I might come back a bit. XD I think it could be like both, implementing friend & follow like on deviantART. You can follow(or on dA, watch) a user of Scratch, and can decide to friend/not friend them do with a check/uncheck of a box. And then mutual friends will be listed under some friend box on the profile a long with a follow box to see whoever the user simply follows  smile

Re: Scratch 2.0: Friend or Follow?

The transitioning would be kind of hard. For instance, what would happen to all of the people who are our friends now?

I think it would be confusing. I like the way our current system works.

Do you have a problem?

Because you were very nice to my brother, and you hate me.

It’s prejudice to like him just because he’s new to the community.

Re: Scratch 2.0: Friend or Follow?

I apologise if this has already been asked but even though I am totally in favour of having both friending and watching, I can see the benifits of watching someone in order to be informed when they release a new project, what advantages or reasons are there for friending? PM isn't happening for good reason, so what else would you be able to do if you are friends with someone?

Also, Would watching forum threads be possible? or even a system where if your name is mentioned like @sparks in a thread it optionally sends you a message?

Re: Scratch 2.0: Friend or Follow?

Definitely both.

And I sure this has been suggested, but what about 3 lists: Your friends, your followers, and who you follow. That way, you can know who's watching your activity.  smile

Oh yeah, I forgot about mentioning who follows you too. XD 3 lists sounds good. And again, some kind of customizable profile would make it good aswell, in case you don't want to show so many boxes.

No, 1906010 is my brother. We’re twins actually, and he doesn’t really like the ‘social’ part of Scratch. I forced him to get an account, and he used it at first but he rarely uses it anymore.

He’s the most introverted person I’ve ever met.

Old friend system, it would hurt others feelings if they said no.

Yeah, I think it would be good to have both. BTW, I only use my "friend" list for people I know in real life.

Re: Scratch 2.0: Friend or Follow?

I like the idea. So, on the Scratch home page, would there be seperate sections for "Friends Projects" and "Following Projects", or will it be in the same section?

lightning900 wrote:

Why don't we use both? There could be two lists called 'friends' and 'fans' (or something similar).

If someone adds you, they will be added to the 'fans' list and can follow you etc. and if you add them back they will move in to friends (there could also be a way of becoming their fan without being their friend). As friends, you may be able to to do more things like chat.

I agree. I really want to keep the original friend list, but other people don't. But I just want to point out soemthing. I joined sScratch because it was different. If we're changing so it's more like another website, scratch won't be the same. Sorry about my rant, but the only two things I want to be added in 2.0 is the create your own blocks, and I thought it would be cool if we didn't have the 10MB limit. I'm just not a big fan of the "making projects online" or the "following people".

I like the Friend and follow option, though I expect that you'll still get those people who'll friend everyone.
