Is it?
When was it made? Before BYOB or Streak?

Streak by Billyedward was certainly the first one I heard of and BYOB followed shortly. Panther came out just before the updated BYOB. (this isn't counting all the little mods of Scratch that Jens released on his chirp blog)

Yes I believe streak was... or was there another one. I feel like streak has changed so much since the first version that there was one before. XD

I haven't heard of Zatch before, so at first I thought this topic was about forum moderators.
But, I think NetScratch was the first mod. I'm not sure which Scratch version Zatch was based on, but from Zatch's intro project, I can see that there were already lists by the time it was started. However, NetScratch was based on Scratch 1.0, at which point there was no lists and very basic variables. It was privately made by the Scratch Team, but was leaked somewhere onto the forums.

NetScratch was not the first mod. It was made by the Scratch Team.

Alright, what is your definition of a Scratch mod?
NetScratch was a modification of Scratch which did not replace the development process, and is a Scratch mod by my definition. Look, the Scratch Wiki puts NetScratch under the Scratch Modifications category!

THAT'S WHAT IT WAS! I KNEW there was one before slash.
It is made by the scratch team (hence the NetScratch which would be against rules).

Yeah. Obvious.

My definition of a mod:
-Any program based off of Scratch using either the source code or a copy of the program with sharing removed
-Made by a user/team other than MIT
-Not using Scratch in the title (disobeys rules)
-Having at least one modification to the code
-Shared to the public, and having an active way to download it
With the exception of Streak, the above is the things that a mod has to be to be a mod.

Lists came out in 1.3
.
However I noticed that Zatch's intro project somehow made itself in 1.4.
Wait... I now rule out Zatch as a mod, because the website disappeared some time ago... *updates list of rules*

In case anyone cares, almost a year after the thread was made...
Zatch wasn't nearly the first mod. I made it a few months before the release of Panther, I think. Most of the code for blocks was just "borrowed" from other mods. (with credit, of course) I deleted the website as I had stopped working on the mod and few people really wanted to download it any more. Interesting to see that people still realise it existed...

The wiki isn't always right, by the way.

I remember Zatch! No, it was one of the first, probably the first after the huge modding rush was started a bit after Panther development.

No, NetScratch was made by the scratch team first, it was the one that gave the idea of making mods. Zatch may have been the first user made mod.
