Tutorials

I think that it would be nice if a group of moderately advanced scratchers got together and made a series of tutorials describing almost everything that you can do within the bounds of scratch. Then I think it would be nice if the scratch-team put a link somewhere so people needing help getting there head around a concept could go there.

I've taken a long hiatus, but I still visit sometimes. Give me some time to answer any messages you post on my projects!

Re: Tutorials

There area a number of tutorials and sample projects already out there.  The problem is finding them!

Here is a good thread which has links to some good projects that demonstrate various features:

There is also mietreat's gallery of How To projects:

Right!  Thanks, another great resource...here's the link to it'

If anybody else has galleries or accounts with tutorials or demos that I've overlooked (and I know you're out there!), please leave a link to it here.  It would be good to get a survey of what we already have before launching an effort to make more.

Actually, I've been putting off trying to get a handle on this issue until we have some better tools for organizing projects, such as the Nested Gallery idea I've brought up a number of times.  If we had galleries that could contain other galleries, we could make an attempt to structure and make useful the enormous amount of projects and knowlege that has already been created.

Great idea! These would be helpful resources for new AND experienced users.

If you or others are interested in creating some, here are some things to consider:

1) How you title your projects really impacts how people find and use them...for example  "How To Scroll" explains what the tutorial is about, but "Scrolling Tutorial" will make it easier for them to find when searching through a gallery alphabetically

2) How much info you put into projects: making each one a single concept or feature breaks things down and allows people to understand an idea without clutter

3) Who your tutorials are geared towards? (beginners? advanced users?) It might be helpful to make a note of this in your project notes or even in the title

4) Add tags: How-To, Tutorial, Demo, help - these will make it easier for people who are searching for projects to look at

Any tutorials I find, I have been adding to my How-To gallery...feel free to add any new creations there!

Right... I knew that link, just not when | typed it. And I just added the things Fullmoon said about the saying blocks and putting stuff in them
