Why do people expect everyone to read all the comments?

Sometimes, when I am on a project and post a comment reporting a glitch or something like that, people will get mad and say "People already told me that!". But, I don't fully understand why its my responsibility to read every single comment on a project and sometimes its a lot. I would rather enjoy more scratch projects than look at all the comments and make sure I don't repeat anything. And after all, they can just repeat the answer instead of getting upset about it. Or if they really don't feel like repeating something like if its too long(they can always copy and paste) they should just say to look at (put username here)'s comment.

What do you think of this? I have seen it a lot on scratch lately.

Re: Why do people expect everyone to read all the comments?

I think it's more of an annoyance when someone keep repeating something the project owner already knows. An analogous situation: I keep getting annoyed when my mom asks me if I remembered to take my cellphone with me whenever I'm going out, and I'm pretty sure must of us have experienced something similar.

We don't have to read every comment on a project (especially in cases where the number of comment spans a large amount) but I think it's worth at least skimming over the first set of fresh comments to see what others have said - you never know when a previous comment will answer the questions we have so we don't need to ask repeatedly over again.  wink

Yeah, that makes more sense.

I guess that's how it is when you're famous like yourself. Who has time to read 3+ pages of comments?

I agree with cheddargirl.
If it's something often repeated though, it can be put in the project notes.

Re: Why do people expect everyone to read all the comments?

My response is basically the same as cheddargirl's - it can be annoying to hear the same thing over and over. I know I get the same feeling on the forums sometimes, like while reading the hundredth forum topic suggesting Scratch for iOS or the <I receive> block - it just gets monotonous to see all the time, and to be honest, I get so sick of it that sometimes I just don't respond to those topics any more.

Re: Why do people expect everyone to read all the comments?

personally i get told of glitches about 10 times in a row.
even after i fix them. its like people just want to jump a bandwagon or something.

so; yes. if your reporting a glitch, dont be an idiot and cause frustration and scan through the comments using Alt+f beforehand.

I believe the alternative term is "Grammar cop".

Anyways, let's drop the use of calling out on people's grammar. To quote Paddle2See on the same issue:

Okay...let me summarize. Not everybody likes to have their grammar corrected. In fact, some people find it annoying, particularlly when it's done in a less-than-tactful way.

This isn't an English grammar site...it's a Scratch Programming site. So maybe we can see a little less focus on the grammar and more focus on the programming  smile

Yes, [/offtopic]. And I am fine with "grammar freak."
Also, I was also correcting that he said Alt, not Ctrl. Alt + F opens the file menu.  tongue
