You ever notice how when you shoot a portal it's a little ball before it splats against a surface? The idea is to shrink that ball of plasma midair so it covers a smaller surface. No telling if it will work or not. Though if you hold the funnel against the wall it will definitely work.

I would have an orange portal pre-made at the bottom of a lake (15-20 feet deep). Then I would jump out of an airplane, and make a blue portal on the ground below me. I would fly out of the water and fall back in.

I know what I wouldn't do: Shoot the moon. Think about it: space is a vacuum, so the pressure there would be much lower than here. Earth's atmosphere would be sucked into space, and all that would remain would be the small amount that the moon's gravity could hold.
As for what I would do, probably use it to get around really fast, or maybe just create an infinite fall loop and drop objects into it.
