Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

I don't exactly like the idea.. Recently, I deleted half of my projects because I didn't like anymore, but other people seeing them again? Not cool.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

By the way, on the viewing code on unfinished projects, I believe that it should be private until you release it. Another idea would be that only moderators can see it, to add protection to the Scratch Project. If moderators find it inappropriate, they can restrict it from being shared. Perfect, let's move on and do something else. Angry Birds, anyone?

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

Well, maybe there could be two separate sites, one for making projects, and one to view them. The site will be extremely slow if we have project creation in the same place.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

I think that's a great idea to have people be able to share projects while working on them. Another idea would be a sort of viewing screen with comments on the side and maybe you could select people that can edit it (like in Google Docs and maybe Livestream). That way, people could point out little errors. Or, you could just have tags you can put on scripts like "error" or "this is what is wrong" or suggestions.

about in version 2.0, i think it would be alright to show your drafts with the project editor online.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

Well, some people may not want others to see what they've done so far, great thinking. But maybe; there could be options whether or not they want it. Two seconds, tick a box yes or no and DONE. Hopefully, it won't take very long for the Scratch Team to make. I love the idea but sometimes I make horrible starts to projects that don't even work and its like; "Woah! I'd be so embarrassed if somebody saw THAT!" I have been on Scratch for six or seven months even if I am called a 'New Scratcher' that is because I had an account at the very start called Cat11 and after Cat11 pussnboots (no capitals). I love the Scratch Team's way of thinking!  big_smile

I think you should have the option to block users from seeing projects you haven't finished.

No. To be honest i disagree with this. What if people just want there projects to be private?  so no i disagree with this idea.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

Oh. My. God. Scratch projects ONLINE??!!!???

That would be the most incredibly helpful thing in the entire universe.

I use a school-issued laptop, so I am unable to make projects with it, but this could allow me to make them ANYTIME!!!

My gawsh, thank you, Scratch 2.0. *bows down in prayer*

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

I think people have the right to have their projects private until the owner decides the project may be view by others.

p.s. Will scratch 2.0 be open source like the other versions of scratch? I really enjoy modifying scratch. It would be fun to get to know the flash environment like I learned the squeak environment.

No.

I don't like to post my projects until they're done.

Here's an idea:  Why not allow me to invite specific people to view (or even contribute) to a draft project?  This would enable people to work together on projects.

BTW, I would like an easy way to test my draft projects in the various platforms (java player, flash player, dev environment, etc.).

I like BoltBait's idea on the end. Sometimes when I make a project, I'm not sure how it's gonna run online until I actually share it. It would be nice to see what platforms it works on without having to actually share it, especially if the project isn't done.

What if you lose the internet connection while you're working on a project?

That's a good question! Maybe there will be an offline mode so you can save the project on your computer temporarily, and then send it to the Scratch servers when you get your internet connection back.  smile

Re: Scratch 2.0 Update: Moving to the Cloud

I think there should be an option in the settings to enable people viewing your unfinished projects (by default it's on). Then, when you are finished, you mark it as "finished". When people perform a normal search, they will only find finished projects. However, there should be a "Draft Project Search" which would search through draft projects only (or as well, I'm not sure). When someone marks their project as finished, they can still open it up later and edit it again or "upgrade" it.
