Re: Images in signatures

Link Link Links.....I stuck with a banner.  big_smile  I think you could make two banners with two different links to it. Try it out.

Re: Images in signatures

You're totally right JSO!! People who don't want to see signatures can just configure their accounts to avoid seeing them. Thanks a lot for pointing this out.

On your forum profile page, click "display". Uncheck "display images in signatures" and click "submit".

Awesome!  I'm doing it now!

Re: Images in signatures

A while ago I was one of the people that wanted images in signatures. I think that people are using this feature to the extreme, with huge images and animated images. I turned images off a while ago, but think you should make it so images CAN still be put in signatures, for the people that want them. Maybe you could 'tame' images, and control that images no larger than a specific size get put in...?

That's a good idea... some people even have three animated images in their signature, which I find annoying because the flashyness annoying when you're trying to concentrate.

Re: Images in signatures

Hmmm. I personally like the images, banners, and tickers in signatures. However, if it is slowing other computers than they kind of should be turned off.

Thank you very, very much, JSO.  This setting has made my life so much more enjoyable and my forum reviews so much faster!

Re: Images in signatures

I changed my signature again, but I made sure there were no pictures. It is one simple line of test. I think that there should be pictures, but there should be a size limit. I also think that if they are animated, they should not be allowed at all. My signature now reads: All your base are belong to us

We have had several opinions mentioned here and it's not clear to me who you are disagreeing with.  Please clarify, thanks.

Re: Images in signatures

I think choice #1 is the best.  For alot of people with older machines it can really slow them down, so they avoid the forums.

Those people can just turn the option off. I think you should be allowed, just not too many (maybe just one? Maybe only not animated ones?)

Re: Images in signatures

Even I feel the pictures (includes flashy, animated and bright) distracting when I am reading a post . It keeps flashing with bright colours which harms the eye  and also distracts people. So, I belive that the signature should be limited to simple, good, funny, cool or informative text with smileys.

Keep the images

Because of your ridiculously huge image in your signature, this page took 5 whole minutes to load. I think that you should  be able to have a signature with no animation. But perhaps scratch would not be able to monitor this since they don't host the images. My personal oopinion is that there should be a limit on the number of kilobytes a signature can be. Would it be possible to monitor this?

Re: Images in signatures

I definitely support Dick Baldwin's suggestion to include avatar images in the forums as a way to make it easier to track a discussion.  I also agree that allowing an image free-for-all creates a lot of visual pollution.  However, I have seen sites that have badges or bling that people can select from an approved pool.  I think this could be valuable as a tool for helping like-minded Scratchers connect.  For example, there could be a badge for people who focus on scrolling games and another for people who prefer animation or abstract games.  These badges could also be a way to claim affiliation and show pride in membership of a certain group, like a school club or virtual studio.

Thanks, it's much better now! The images were very distracting until I learned about this.

Aaah,  image free signatures.  Thanks JSO;  now there's a lot less scrolling going on for me in the forums.
