There's a couple of workarounds to get through: You'll have to install X11, which should be on the Mac OS X install disk.

The installer is about 17.4 Megabytes. I'm not sure about the application, but my guess is it would be around the same number, give or take a megabyte or two.

There are lots of other ways! I'm afraid I'm not familiar with them, however - but if you follow these instructions things should work great.
If you have a Mac, it can be a bit of a hassle getting GIMP to open...

i use a website calles "gifninga.com" it works really good! 
And its easy!

What kind of file are you exporting as?
If you're just slapping a name on it and saving, Scratch won't except it. You'll need to name is something like [yournamehere].png or [yournamehere].jpeg
