Re: "famous" scratchers

Agree. It's kind of fun to see a zillion notifications and then realize you are front paged. I was like "800 notifications?!? That's crazy! Now whose project is that? Oh, it's mine!  smile   smile   smile   smile   smile ", but, some people are caught in the fame revolving door, being bumped onto the front page... because you are on the front page. (Why? Because you are on the front page. See the loop?)

Anyways, what if you can only get in the top *something* in a category with one project? That is, if you get 2 projects with more loves or stuff than anybody else, only the one with the most goes in the top *something* and the other has to skip down to the lower section. If *something* was the top 20, then your second project would get a shot at being the 21st.

Another way is for each project to have a score that is computed by Loves+Faves-FrontPageTime. Then, you would get on the front page if you had a higher score than other projects. But, each day you are on the front page, you lose 1 point. You can gain things like less New Scratcher time for people who use a referral code. Why prizes? Losing points by being front-paged might make Scratchers not want to make front page projects, because, well, you lose points. So, the (small) prizes make Scratchers want to front page their projects again.

Those are my ideas. I hope you like them!

bye 1.4, we all loved you. but we all outgrew the site. 2.0 is a welcome change.

I totally agree, i've put such hard work into my projects. i find myself bent over the computer all night for what? two? Three views? last week, when that 3d building was feautured? the day before, i had built a whole studio for buildings with a wireframe and everything, this morning i made a 3d dead space engineer, it too me 3 hours for this one sprite, and it never got a single view. When stuff like this happens it makes me doubt the scratch network as a whole, i mean why should i make projects when all they're gonna do is take up space? Anyway, we just need a better way to find superior projects.

Re: "famous" scratchers

If people get famous, it happens. Its not always their choice to be famous. If you get a lot of views or love-its because you worked hard on a project, you deserve to be on the home page even though this is not always so. It also depends on your definition of "famous", I have been called "famous" before, but I don't feel like I'm "famous". Also, if a project has been on the home page for 10 days, it will be removed automatically. I admire your enthusiasm, but honestly, if you're home paged, its because other people viewed your stuff on their own free will, not because they paid people to.

What's so good about being front paged anyway? In the end, you get no money, all that happens is a bunch of kids know your username most of the time.

Re: "famous" scratchers

I've been on the front page lots of times! Only on the "newest projects" page though. It WOULD be quite nice if I could get on OTHER parts of the FRONT PAGE. I totally agree with this!!!  big_smile

EDIT: Actually, Ive been featured once for making a project about a chicken crossing the road.

Why?  hmm  If someone makes good projects, they deserve to be frontpaged. Although, the frontpage is kind of iffy these days...

There is no reward for being frontpaged, just the majority of the community knowing your username...

Re: "famous" scratchers

Honestly, fame is not everything. It's nice, but it really doesn't add much to your life. Try showing Scratch to some of your IRL friends. They might like it, and you can be famous with each other. If you really want to get front paged, make a good project and suggest it for curation NICELY; i.e., "Hey, could you check out my project, [whatevs] and tell me if it is curator worthy? Thanks!"

Re: "famous" scratchers

I support the idea that a Scratcher should not be allowed on the front page more thatn a few times. If they really are famous, they will have a lot of friends, and then the friends can just find the famous Scratcher's projects with the friends recent projects part of the front page.

But what if a famous user made the best game on Scratch, and no one would see it because they made one too many good projects? That seems like it would broadcast the wrong idea, 'If you make good projects, no one will notice you.' That could actually lower the quality of the front page.

Re: "famous" scratchers

Hey guys, I have an idea! What if there was a row that said "chosen by scratchers like you!" It  will be a mixture of the curated and SDS rows. Instead of a special project theme every week, the curators of that row find projects that they the majority agrees on. But, here's the catch. It's also like the featured row. They couldn't have been front paged in the last  6 months. This would make it easier for scratchers to get front paged, because it could be any project that the majority of the curators liked instead of the scratch team having to have three that change every week or so (They change much quicker).

Re: "famous" scratchers

Like boltbait said. you can't throw something together in five minutes and expect it to be front paged. You have to spend time on it. A good way to start would be contests. put the contests in you sig and hope people notice it, then it could be on "What the community is Remixing". Or you could join a collab and create an awesome project. Or you can join a magazine etc. on scratch. This one you can't really join but you could get some ideas from it.

Hope you take these ideas.
