Failed to upload, unknown error

I keep getting this.

I'm trying to post the most bestest and most good project thing I've ever made yet, and it refuses to upload.

It goes all the way up to almost full, then it fails.

Why is it doing this to me?

Re: Failed to upload, unknown error

What's the file size?  It may be over 10 MB.  If it is it can't be uploaded.  I think in Scratch 2.0 they'll change that though.

Does it have any music?  Music takes up a LOT of file space in Scratch.  If you do, either make the music its lowest quality possible or scrap it altogether.

Re: Failed to upload, unknown error

It has no sound files at all.

The file size is 47 MB, so that might be my problem. I have no idea how to bring down the file size. Everything is necessary.

The most I could free up is like 3 MB.

47 MB?  If I could whistle through a screen I would.  How many sprites/scripts does it have?

You can also try compressing the image quality to its lowest.
To compress the image quality go to Edit > Compress Images > 10.

Re: Failed to upload, unknown error

One sprite has 640 costumes exactly. All the costumes it has is nesesary.

There is also about 35 or so backgrounds. I think these backgrounds are eating up more space than anything else. They range from 250 - 670 kb.

My project also features a few scenes with a triple layered side scrolling moving background.

As for scripts, as much as this thing has? I'm not sure, really.

I'll try that image compression thing.

Edit:

Um, yeah. Didn't work. It only decreased the file size by maybe six.

I can't split the project, since the final scene uses all sprites and all costumes.

Besides, if I did split it, it'll still be more than 10 mb.

This is getting annoying.

Re: Failed to upload, unknown error

47 megabytes? O_o If everything in that project is necessary, I don't think there's any hope of getting it under 10 megabytes... sorry  sad

I suppose you could upload the project file to a file hosting website, and create a Scratch project advertising your project with a link to its download - people could copy the url, go to the website and download your project. It's not very neat, but I've seen it done before.  smile

Re: Failed to upload, unknown error

Well, I'm making a youtube version.

This is a test video I posted a while ago on youtube.

And I made a 2 MB teaser project, and scratch refuses to upload that. It just says "Failed: Unknown reason"

It's barely over 2 MB. Why, just why won't you upload? I tried three times, and failed three times.

I'm not getting my password wrong, and I'm typing my username right. I'm obviously connected to the internet.

It loads all the way to "Connected to Scratch Website," "Waiting for a response," but fails when there's just a sliver left of loading.

Also, something to notice, the 47 MB scratch project I made took me well over 700 hours to complete. It is my senior project. I have literally timed myself.

It's a movie length animation at an hour and some minutes. It also features full length battle scenes and a complete plot.

The video/youtube version is far more important than having in on scratch itself for the senior project, but I also want to show the scratch community just what the stupid little program is capable of handling.

I can't if it won't upload.

Triple layer scrolling background is big for scratch. I don't see very many projects with a scrolling background that is composed of twelve sprites.

Re: Failed to upload, unknown error

Okay, never mind, the little 2 MB project uploaded.

Until the new version of scratch comes out, I guess I just won't be able to upload the real thing to the scratch website. There's no getting around it.

I'll just stick to a link to youtube on the 2 MB version I have.

You can ignore/lock this topic now.
