Actually, this had nothing to do with trolls, it was just the commercial spammer issue that drove this restriction in place.

However, New Scratchers who already had a Signature, they no - longer have them, do they?

New Scratchers who already have a signature should still be able to keep their signatures - only New Scratchers who have had their signature field blank or who have signed up after the restriction was put in place will not be able to get a signature until after they turn into a Scratcher.

I think dav09 got slightly confused, perhaps being under the impression that this was the old thread announcing that signatures were tied to how long the user had been on the forums.

It's a mark of how long you've been on, and kind of an accomplishment to some.

-This could stop commercial spammers, who post several fine posts, wait 15 days, then use the signature to spammity spam spam.
-This also might be unfair to some, as most New Scratchers are completely fine.
So mixed feelings about this.

Commercial spammers are usually bots
A simple captcha at the sign up should fix it, I don't see why it's at the login and not there.
