A bigger issue is how many tiles are displayed horizontally and vertically. The tiles need to be scaled to fit Scratch's screen.
Not necessarily, you can always make the screen slightly smaller.

Yeah probably will do that but you still need to know how many tiles should fit in the screen.
Working on a simple tilemap thing now by the way
Rounding down, it's 22 tiles by 30.
Of course, we could just show 20 tiles each way at a time.

Sorry about the map thing. I've had a lot of school work lately. It will get done eventually.

Good. Can I do a little basic programming possibly?

Part bump and part message to let everyone know that I'm still here.
If you want, you can make the existing pokemon engine look like the actual one and put in a simple scrolling map. That would help.

You can try modding this to look like pokemon, may be hard though.

Yeah, I think that using tilemaps is a bit far in at this point, I'll make a basic scrolling map and see where it goes from there.
It just would be a huge hassle to set up all the tile stuff. I'll remix my pokemon RPG or something to use the new and improved pokemon engine.

I am pleased to present progress
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/archtest/1690653
This puts us waaaay ahead of every other pokemon collab on this site.
Next steps:
-Make it look like the actual pokemon game in every way possible
-Improve the basic scrolling maps to produce a demo game
-Implement the tile maps
If tile maps cannot be implemented for whatever reason, this project will be much more limited and time consuming, but it should still be pretty good.

I'm waiting about music. I have some good battle music, and some music that might be good for the credits.
Offline
Just post what ever pokemon style music you have and where it should go. Then your music will be added to the game.

music
I guess it could be used for battle music
Or credits

This is more like dance music I think, pokemon music is more simple with few electronic/dance sounds.

Oh... I don't like 8-bit music
I can't make it very well
Offline
It could just be some simple midi music, just no music with special sounds effects and stuff like that.

This is still going on, I just need to study for exams at the moment

Ok, tilebased is going to be too much work in scratch so it will be just a basic 4 way scrolling map.
The scrolling scripts will come from this project which is really well coded. http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/inuwali/227416
This allows us to only have 4 area sprites and lets people actually play the game
I just have to change the variable names to more familiar names.
This also limits the number of areas to 100.

Sorry, I have exams until the 16th. If you have free time you could try coding in maps and stuff, its far easier than the battle engine.

I have made a pokemon type game and wouldn't mind if you wanted to use some of my scripting or pokemon here is the url: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/arcademan/1684641 please feel free to use anything you like from it just as long a you mention me.

Sry Arcademan, that isn't what in are looking for...
In other news, the game "Pokemon Magnus" will get a turbo start as I no life the entire day Sunday developing it!
Plans for this are not so big anymore because it would be too impractical with Scratch's restrictions but it still will be a full featured pokemon RPG. This may be ported with the better suited Flash at a later time.
I know for sure that mkolpnji is still on board with this and I appreciate your patience, its what make great projects like Collab Monsters possible.

Ok anyone else considering being on board with this? I'll be working on this and by tomorrow you should be able to walk around a bit and go in to stores, though, interfaces will probably be lacking a bit.
Graphic people would be good, but no custom monster sprites, custom monsters just waste time and take it away from what matters.
