To give you an idea of how the map works, it will be a lot like zelda.
example map:
When you go past the visible area or into a door or something a new map is generated.
I am hoping that the map can be about this big.

Ooh I love zelda especially that game... it was for the nes right? or gba?
This looks good

Ok, I have been thinking, it may be possible to make a scrolling tilemap for this.
Reasons why:
-Uses most simple form of hit detection, testing only for square sides not corners
-No forever loops, forever loops are the most resource draining block in scratch. Since pokemon characters move one tile at a time this should be possible.
-The new flash player is far better at handling many sprites than the old java player
Using a scrolling tilemap it may be possible to create an exact clone of pokemon in Scratch (but not practical)
More on this as I develop a prototype, but it theory it should work. If not, then non-scrolling will have to do.
PS: This WILL get finished, unlike every other pokemon collab. We have already shown we have what it takes with collab monsters

Hey Archmage, do you have any ideas for music? I'm waiting.

I dunno, just typical pokemon music.

No one should worry too much until we get to the point where it is simple to add maps characters and monsters. The reason why other groups fail is because they worry about things like art and never even get to the point where they can add their art.
So basically, everyone chill until a simple demo is made

Sounds like a good strategy. I'm gonna go start making music though...

For all considering, no New Scratcher's allowed unless you can show that shows you are very experienced.

I can map if you have the tilesets that you are using confirmed, and I can try mapping with them as my proof of awesomeness

I don't really think we need people who are assigned to mapper, it will be just something people will have to do. Mapping is something pretty much anyone can do, you click on the screen to draw a map out of tiles, there is no difficulty in this.

I probably got that covered, I can map really quickly and still do the other jobs...
So, you got that tiler done yet?

Well, I haven't gotten around to that yet, but the basic part won't be hard.

That needs to be modded to include pokemon tiles and set the correct width and height. That would be suitable for a very basic tilemap editor.

A bigger issue is how many tiles are displayed horizontally and vertically. The tiles need to be scaled to fit Scratch's screen.

Not necessarily, you can always make the screen slightly smaller.

Yeah probably will do that but you still need to know how many tiles should fit in the screen.
Working on a simple tilemap thing now by the way

Not really yet, been kind of busy with assignments. But the battle engine is already done and I just need to make some maps.
