A tile-based game system uses predefined tiles to both define the size of and draw game maps. Although Pac Man is a tile system game, they became typically used in RPGs.

A tile system has some really good benefits for Scratch applications including bullet-proof collision detection, something that has always been tricky to accomplish in even simple Scratch games.

I made a pretty complicated demo of a tile system along with a map editor but I think it went over most people's heads.
old project
So I am going back to square one to explain how it all works and will finish with a full functioning RPG game that will be a standout Scratch project. I will draw all the graphics myself.

If you are interested in keeping up with this, send me an email at zac_ray@fastmail.fm and I will make sure to update you as I post new projects and answer any and all questions. Peace!!
