Jailbreak iPod Touch

I am running Mac OSX 10.6 on my computer and iPod touch 4.2.1. I need to know a good jailbreaking tool. The warranty has run out.

Re: Jailbreak iPod Touch

Well, all of those crashed my iPod Touch. I had to restore it. Any other ideas? I didn't try pwnagetool yet though.

Re: Jailbreak iPod Touch

Greenpois0n works fine on all iDevices. I've used it on my iPod Touch. Just make sure you follow the onscreen directions exactly.

Re: Jailbreak iPod Touch

Please note that jail breaking your iPod Touch will void it's warranty, and will use up more battery power and make the device run slower. Also, your iPod may brick during the process, which effectively destroys it.

Now that you know all the risks, GreenPois0n should do the trick.  smile

I don't have battery loss, and I used sn0wbreeze!

Yes, it will void the warranty. Yes, it can brick, but the chances are virtually nil. And as for using more battery/slowing it down? That's only true if you install things that would cause that. Remember that jailbreaking is just removing the restrictions on base files and code. Different operation systems have different commonly used names, but it's all the same at the end of the day.

P.S. If anything does go wrong with your device (jailbreak related or not) you can just restore it to factory settings with iTunes and bring it in for service. Apple won't know the difference.  smile

I know, but I just want to make sure that the person knows that it might happen.

The battery life isn't shortened by much, but it still is. Same for the speed.

And I know you can still restore factory settings (that's how you un-jailbreak), but it's still a hassle because it takes a while and you have to sync your device before you do.

I used to have my phone jailbroken, but then I un-did it.

Also, jailbreaking your iDevice makes it susceptible to viruses, though those to are rare. Overall, I like it better un-jailbroken  smile

I've never bricked a device. If it DOES happen, I know a way out of it.

No, it froze. WSOD. I fixed it like that though.

WHAT?  yikes  I guess this is just me, but I wouldn't be able to stand using mine without a jailbreak. There's just too many extremely useful addons.

For starters, I have a 2nd-gen iPod Touch, which means Apple has decided I shouldn't have multitasking or homescreen wallpaper. So my first order of business was to enable those features. But ignoring that, since not everyone has that problem, here are more reasons I jailbreak:

-Backgrounder: Vastly better than Apple's multitasking implementation, it lets me choose exactly which applications to run in the background and which not to. Not only can I see and control backgrounding state, I can set exceptions for certain apps.

-Multifl0w: An app switcher that mimic's OS X's Expose interface. Very intuitive, and only shows running apps.

-SBSettings: Allows me access to tons of settings toggles with a swipe on the taskbar. From any application, I can adjust WiFi, brightness, manage running apps, and more, all without leaving my current app.

-Activator: Set shortcuts to do a wide variety of tasks with button combinations. For example, I can play/pause my music just by holding down the home button for a couple seconds, even when my iPod is locked.

-Themes: I can make my homescreen look just about any way I want. Right now I have all the icon labels for my apps hidden and the ability to rotate to an iPad-style landscape layout.

-Tweaks: There are tons of little system tweaks available to change how my device runs, like ScrollingBoard, which adds paging to my dock and removes the 12-icon limit in folders by allowing scrolling. I also have a tweak that enhances tab behavior in Safari.

Re: Jailbreak iPod Touch

My personal list of what you should get (blue = purchase)
--SBSettings
Quick toggles, hide icons, and more. A LOT of users use it.
--Activator
Activate things by doing something. You have no choice, most thing you install use this.
--Animate (MUST be on 4.2.1 and jailbroken with greenpois0n)
  Animate your boot logo!
--AppBackup
  Backup app store apps!
--Display Recorder
It says itself, record your display.
--iFile-- Free trial available
Very advanced iPhone file manager, can access entire iPhone file system!
--Veency
View and control your device from a VNC viewer.
--WinterBoard
Design your device with themes and more!
--Move2Unlock
  Move your lockscreen to unlock.
--MultiIconMover
Move more than one icon at once.
--Lock Seconds
  Add seconds to your lockscreen.

That's my list.
