SilviSoft Firedust Development Topic

Hey Misc guys and girls, here I post again.  wink

This time for Firedust, my latest OS Sim which has been in development since late January.
I have possibly completed the (very) bare bones of the OS, although not a single program has been installed yet. Some innovative features that I have included up until now include:

• Some minimal keyboard shortcuts such as complete keyboard navigation for the log-on screen and open the SlideMenu with a keystroke;

• A very wide variety of themes (precisely four): Fire (duh), water, leaf, and air, along with custom background color;

• Awesome settings saving, all automated and intuitive! It even automatically repairs the system folders;

• Improved icon system, looks more elegant and has added features such as the add icon wizard;

• Unlimited users with a very visual log-on screen;

• A feature I'm very proud of: the Dragboard! It's a drag-drop version of the standard clipboard which allows you to drag certain objects to and from the panel; and

• How could I have almost forgotten the SlideMenu, a modern start menu! It slides up on mouse over, and slides back down when you don't need it.

Now that I've illustrated some of its key improvements, let's move on to what I would like from you guys.
********\/*******\/*******\/********
Before I start making the programs, I would like to know (see if you can guess what) if you have any additional features you would like which strictly relate to the OS, or if you have special requests for the programs (even a small feature counts).

Remember, make them possible.

I will be posting some screenshots in a second, as soon as I get time for some  smile

In the meantime, suggest!  big_smile

I guess you're not accepting devs.
However, I do reasonable HTML, JS and CSS and brilliant PHP, so you can have a better-than-weebly website.

Would you accept Whistle as a language for development?

That's what that C# help topic was for.

Also, as for requests, games?  tongue
And to be open source.

Re: SilviSoft Firedust Development Topic

Cool!

A feature I think you should add is the ability to run batch files in Console.

I have bad news about a bootable Crystal/Firedust. FreeDOS outright does not like the .NET framework, so if you are using VB.NET, a bootable version isn't happening, without a rewrite in a different (Non-.NET dependant) programming language.  sad

OK, let's take this bit by bit (in blue!)  big_smile

yikes  Prejudiced!

I guess you're not accepting devs. You guessed right. I don't work well in big collabs and PF is already my special helper  big_smile

However, I do reasonable HTML, JS and CSS and brilliant PHP, so you can have a better-than-weebly website.
Thanks for the offer (if it was one)! I'm currently trying to focus on the programming of the OS itself here though, so the sites and other stuff will come later on. If you're still interested in a couple month's time at least, you can definitely help out!

Would you accept Whistle as a language for development?
That's what that C# help topic was for.
If you mean a possibility to interpret Whistle code and run it in a window, I'll do my best to take the challenge once you're done. Skype/Hamachi to discuss this in more detail?

Also, as for requests, games?  tongue
What kind of games? Games in general are already on my list! What, specifically, would you find entertaining?

And to be open source.
That's going past the line I'm afraid. I have a couple of secret codes in the OS which I'd prefer to keep secret.

Yeah, I figured that out when I had a little search. I don't want to be independent from .NET though, it's just so simpler.  sad

I'm a strong supporter of open-source.

I REFUSE TO DOWNLOAD UNLESS YOU MAKE IT OPEN SOURCE.  mad

Whoa... please understand. I have FTP passwords and stuff in there, I can't just hand them over. Either I make a different version which is open source (but without certain features) or I keep it like that and you deal with it  hmm

Re: SilviSoft Firedust Development Topic

You could put the secret stuff in a file that isn't open source, but make the rest of it so.
Then just include the file where needed.

That would make it harder to download and update. I'm a fan of single-file-dness  tongue

Oh well, life's not perfect. I suppose I'll have to live with it not being open source.

Also, for discussing Whistle, I've sent the Hamachi details to your SilviSoft email.

I did that for Panther, too.

It worked.
