Description of Problem:
My projects that have issues with the new player:
-My latest game, Star Trek: simply locks up the browser. (This game actually plays ok in the Experimental Viewer without locking up.) FIXED in v20
I'm going to call this one "fixed" even though it is nearly impossible to adjust the shield strength on the status screen. I'm not sure, but I'll guess it is related to the issue I'm still seeing on the other games on my list.
Still a problem in v20:
-Adventure: Lists are wrong size, the ask block doesn't work? (This game works better in the Experimental Viewer, however it is far from perfect there.) Ask block FIXED in v20
-Homework Help: Factoring, clicking the "factor it" button doesn't always register. Also, while the up arrows work, none of the down arrows work.
-Homework Help: Root Reductions, clicking the "reduce it" button doesn't always register. Also, while the up arrows work, none of the down arrows work.
-Cribbage Solitaire: The crib hand score variable shows up in the wrong spot. (That's the hand on the right.)
-BlackJack: The sound clips are ending prematurely. (All the things the dealer says are cut off at the end.) Everywhere in the project I'm using the block PLAY SOUND _ AND WAIT, so I'm not sure why the sounds would be cut off.
-Bath Time Starring Scratch Cat: clicking the bubbles does not always register. This makes playing the game impossible.
-Scratch Rocks! clicking the asteroids does not always register. This makes playing the game impossible.
Projects I updated to handle the new Flash player:
-Online Detector

Your score: 8/15 or 53% - keep trying!
My major complaint with the new flash player now is the fact that many mouse clicks get lost--they just don't register as ever having happened. That makes fast-action games, like Star Trek and Bath Time and Scratch Rocks nearly impossible to play. The Java player never seems to have this problem. Once you get that problem fixed, I think you'll really have a decent player on your hands.
My two pinball games excluded from testing.

Just started playing around with the Flash player, found my first bug.
Computer's Operating System: Windows XP
Web browser's name and version: Flock 2.6.1 (Firefox-based platform)
Flash version: 10,2,152,26
Description of Problem: After playing one of my games, it seems that when the end credits show up after the game is completed, the images for the end credits do now show up. I don't know if this is cause by a bug in the brightness for effect blocks or by a bug in the broadcasted messages (the message broadcasted in this case of "CloseCreditsScreen")
Link to project: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/cheddargirl/1037529
Description of Problem: Some sprites seem to be shifted from their original position. In this project, the piano on the right has shifted to the left so it looks like one of the cats is playing the piano in the air

I don't have a glitche to report, but I sugest to not fully switch to the Flash-based player because some scratchers don't have Adobe Falsh player on their computers, so they won't be able to look at projects on scratch. I also suggest to let scratchers pick between using a Flash-based player and the one that is currently used and has been used for a while.

then they would just need to download flash.

We plan to keep the Java Scratch Player available as an option for a while, although as the bugs in the Flash-based player get fixed, I expect that many people will switch to that as their default way to view projects.
Eventually, I hope that there will be little need for the Java Scratch Player because the Flash-based one will be better. However, even then, the Java Scratch Player might be preferred for (a) running old projects whose timing was optimized for the Java Scratch Player and (b) for projects that use musical instruments that do not sound as good in the Flash-based player.
When Scratch 2.0 comes out, it will store projects in a new format that is not supported by the Java player. This, projects created with Scratch 2.0 will have to be played with the Flash-based player.

i had problems actually getting to view this project after swapping from java player to flash player.... nothing happened after loader completed itself..just a white blank applett screen..
There are other projects where entire sprites have not been loaded.. or where pen project rendering seems to interfere with music player.. it sort of gets stuck and glitches..
Then there is scrolling . There are a number of projects that have auto scrolling and sprites which have detection which then initiate a sequence of actions and sounds..
the sound gets stuck and the player descends quickly into a stuttering chaos!..
in moonlit flit..it could not finish the project and ended up with a single caterpillar head just bumping around the screen..

operating system..windows-xp home edition.
browsers used.. internet explorer and firefox.
i am operating latest version of flash.. as updated that and the java a few days ago..
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(The new player does work quite well with camstudio for desktop video capture etc..
which is ok for developing into larger animation ideas with other video software but i do wish there was some way of exporting things from scratch to do this..etc..)

when a sprite is draggable, and you drag it around, its X-POSITION doesnt change until you let go of the sprite! I made an object follow the sprite (OS Message Box 'OK' button) and it only follows it when you let go of the sprite!

Flash even more of a thief than java!
In the old java player, I couldn't scroll the page while I was playing the game, but I could use keyboard shortcuts. In flash I can't even use my shortcuts while viewing a project!

OK... I don't have any specific bugs, but I do have a big problem.
I uploaded my project Griven, a first person adventure/escape game which I worked on for two years. There's a link to it in my signature. It's huge in terms of areas to explore, programming, and memory (9.9 MB) So, it didn't work online. But when downloaded, it worked without glitches (on my computer, I know it can unfortunately vary drastically from computer to computer, based on speed and things.) But I worked hard to eliminate glitches.
Then the flash player comes out which works great, and very fast. For the most part it works perfectly. But since it is a different player, there must be very slight differences. Unnoticeable, except that in multiple places of the game for whatever reason, there are glitches in which something somewhere gets off track, making the game unplayable. I don't know what the specific cause of the glitches are, and the places in the game where they occur are pretty irrelevant. But now, since it is playable very quickly online, nobody downloads it and plays it in the Flash player. So, every single person who views it, after a while of playing, come to the conclusion it is full of glitches and give up. This is frustrating to say the least. The solution to this problem is confusing, but for the sake of this and all the other projects like it, these are some ways to try to fix it that I can see:
Flash player more like Scratch- There's nothing wrong with it loading quickly, but the project itself should play more like in Scratch, or at the same speed. I know this is very hard to calculate but it is more important then it running as fast as possible.
Option to disable Flash player- This should be an option when uploading, so that the project cannot be played in Flash. It wouldn't be used often but in my case it would come in handy so peope know to download instead.
Option to edit projects in Flash- Edit the Flash code, I know that would be difficult and hard to implement but it would be cool.
Option to edit projects in Scratch and immediately see results in Flash player- You can edit the scripts of a project in Scratch, and instead of playing it in full screen, you would play it in a pop out window that plays it in Flash like it would be played on the website. This would make it easier to make sure your project matches up with the Flash player without having to upload it.

The next version of Scratch will fully be in flash. This player is just a beta. There's an option to go back to Java and back to Flash.

You know, that's what the whole thing about Scratch 2.0. Create and edit projects in Flash.

Is the timing in the Flash Player going to be changed so it fits Scratch 1.4? Animation scripts run way faster in the Flash Player than in Squeak Scratch.

Basically, we want the Flash player to match Scratch 1.4 as closely as possible. Timing can be one of the trickiest parts to match. You can help by looking for timing differences, and trying to isolate the smallest collection of scripts that demonstrate them. Then make a project that only includes those scripts, share it to the website, and post a link to it here. That way we can view them in the flash player and in Scratch 1.4, see the causes of the timing differences, and make changes to get them more in synch. (It might be good to use the timer in these projects, to make the differences in performance really clear).
This won't be easy to do. It's easy to notice timing differences, but harder to isolate the causes in a way that shows them clearly. But it's important work that community members can really help with!

Instead of disabling the beta Flash player in favor of recommending that people download, let's find and fix the glitches! See if you can isolate the cause of the glitch or difference in behavior between Scratch 1.4 and the flash player. Remember, Johnm is fixing a ton of bugs - so make sure you have the latest version of the Scratch flash player (should say v.20 right now), and then re-test to see if the bugs still exist. If they do, try to isolate the scripts that cause the problem, as described above, and then share a project that demonstrates the difference in behavior.
Thanks to everyone for reporting!
