Definitive list of importable file types?

Is there a definitive list of file-types that can be imported into Scratch?

Some image types seem to edit very well in the sprite editor, others don't and can leave ugly and ragged edges around the object or character.

I have several ways to create sound loops and music tracks, but what types can be imported beyond .wav files? (I'm pretty sure that the only way to use a midi composition is to break it down into note values because, of itself, it isn't a music track ....... wow! What a chore!)

What animated or film formats can be imported? I think Scratch usually breaks these down into individual frames as it does with animated .gifs.

Re: Definitive list of importable file types?

I've been having trouble with importing sounds - even tried importing from the microsoft website in WAV format: 2 which Scratch says is unsupported!

However I found a work around - played the sound through windows media player and recorded it on my mobile/cell phone and then played and recorded into the scratch sound recorder - it's not as crisp but does the job :-)
