The Vegetarian/Vegan FAQ (For Those Curious Or Critical Of The Diet)

Here's something I piled up for people who are against the vegetarian/vegan diet. I am fine with your decision, but don't criticize the diet when that's not true. This will also contain info for those wondering about the diet. So here is:

Vegetarian/Vegan FAQ

What is the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan?

A vegetarian doesn't eat meat for whatever reasons they may have. This also includes animal byproducts like whey, gelatin, etc. Vegans don't eat anything that comes from an animal. This includes meat, milk, eggs, animal byproducts, and in certain cases honey.

Do vegetarians eat fish?

No. Those are called peskitarians. True vegetarians don't eat anything with a face. Fish aren't vegetables that swim, you know.

Animals eat other animals. That's the food chain. Why doesn't that apply for humans?

Yes, animals do eat other animals to survive. But non-human animals are stuck with it. They can't wake up and say "I don't want to eat animals". Humans, however can. If a human wakes up and says "I don't want to eat animals", that's an option.

You're not really saving any animals. The animal is already dead, so you might as well do something with it.

We are saving animals, even if we aren't directly doing it. The less meat that people buy, the less animals that will be killed for it. Even though one person doesn't make a big difference, a large group of people who agree with that person does. Think of it as a form of protest or boycott.

Rainforests are cut down to make soy.

Often times, yes they are. But there is MUCH more destruction for cattle grazing and building slaughterhouses. So quit whining.

Meat, milk, and eggs are all very healthy for you.

Studies show that vegans have a low rate for heart disease, a little bit higher if your a vegetarian, and surprisingly higher if you eat meat. Animal products contain a high amount of fat and cholesterol. The American Dietary Association says that properly planned vegan diets are a healthy option for all stages of life, including childhood, pregnancy, etc.

On the other hand poorly planned vegan diets can be deficient in protein,Vitamin B12, iron, calcium, and Vitamin D. But if you do the proper planning to find other sources in these nutrients (which do in fact exist), a vegan diet is a healthier lifestyle than eating meat and animal products.

Meat tastes good.

If human tasted good would you eat it? If your pet tasted good would you eat it? I'm assuming no, so why doesn't that apply for other animals? Why are they any different from any other animal?

I eat meat where the animals are treated better.

That's a step in the right direction, but it's not quite there. The animals still get killed. Animals still die. They just have a better life beforehand.

Plants are living too.

Yes. But you don't see them going around talking, barking, squealing, etc. You don't see them thinking. It's not been 100% proven that plants think, but it has for animals. So currently, it's worse to eat animals.

Vegans farts smell worse.

STEREOTYPE STEREOTYPE STEREOTYPE!

That's only when the vegan chuggs down a whole can of beans at once. I'm not saying that there aren't vegans who's farts smell bad, but I've known meat eaters that can rip pretty stinky farts; stinkier than the vegans I know.

That's all I have for now. If I find other arguments against the diet, I'll add them.

Discuss.

If this is about comparing the vegan and vegetarian diets, why are you constantly talking about what we omnivores do

Read the thing. There's a section on that. It's the food chain one.

I'm not aiming this at all omnivores, I'm aiming at people like you who think the diet is unhealthy.

No, I do not.

It's still an animal, even if it's mixed in with other stuff.

What if the Jello was made with the feet of an animal that died of natural causes because it wasn't killed because no one wanted to eat it?

Cause vegans don't even consume plants.

We can all agree on eating the nutrients we need in it's raw form is the best. *Eats teaspoon of iron filings*

Or we could "extract" what we "need" from the living.

Where did you copy the FAQ from? Let me see the original site, it looks like they have a few things off.

Re: The Vegetarian/Vegan FAQ (For Those Curious Or Critical Of The Diet)

Okay, we do eat some living things like plants, so I'll fix the peskitarian issue.

However, I would like to suggest that you guys not be so mean, and discuss this kindly without comics attacking vegans. (TuffGhost, don't attack me for eating plants when you eat animals. If you eat animals, you shouldn't make that comic, because they are as living as plants)

People who assume that a vegan diet is automatically unhealthy, because animal products have some healthy stuff, even if you can get them in other sources.
